Yes, absolutely. The pBone works for beginners of any age - young or old. Q: Why no tenor saxophones?

A plastic saxophone was actually made by the British manufacturer, Grafton, in the 1950s most notably used by Charlie Parker - even then the tenor saxophone was too complex to create. There is today a Vibrato Sax which is made of plastic - but again only for alto.

Q: Why is there no sound when my son blows into it?

There is a technique when producing a sound on any mouthpiece provided by the maker. One way to explain the technique is to make a 'Rasberry' sound with tight lips and produce a 'BUZZZZ' sound. Once he can do that then put the mouthpiece to the lips and do the same again, once he achieves that then put the mouthpiece in the instrument and repeat the process, this should produce the sound needed. I must add that to produce tunes using the slide will need lessons and some degree of hard work, its not like an Harmonica which generates a sound by through blowing through it. I am and have been a trombonist for many years and made a career out of it. If interested seek out an instructor to help with the early learning techniques.

Q: What is it like for staying in tune - especially outdoors?

I'm not sure if this helps but my son says it is easy to tune, it stays in tune but he has not played it outside...he has just moved up to a brass trombone and there is a huge difference in sound quality - only used the Pbone to get through grade 1 and until he was big enough to hold a heavier brass instrument.
