I like what I'm seeing
I just got mine. I bought the 3 footer. The outside temperature is running about 28F here, and dropping overnight.I was mostly concerning about overheating. The thermocouple on the heater appears to be a inch or two from the heater wire.I decided to run a test. I did a few things that aren't approved by the manufacturer. To be clear, the manufacturer approves a fiberglass wrap and the pipe must be full of water.I wrapped the wire around a PVC pipe with a tight spiral - 3in. spacing. Wrapped that with some insulation.I stuck a separate thermocouple against the pipe, halfway down the wire spiral, to monitor the temperature. The pipe temperature is running between 33F and 37F. I can't vouch for the calibration of my thermocouple, but, I like what I'm seeing.I'll let it run overnight, and unwrap it tomorrow.Update - looked good after the test. The test pipe had no water and open at both ends.It warmed up here, and I installed it on my garage pipes. I wish I would have gotten a longer tape than 3 feet. It should get below freezing again this weekend.Update 3/2/2017 - I tried to recall the wattage of my three footer. I threw the package away. Pictures show that the 3 footer is 6 amps. That is 720 watts... when it turns on. Looking at the other packages, the Wrap-On brand tape runs 2 amps per foot. It's 20F outside. My independent thermocouple shows the pipe at 37F. I don't check it often, but the lowest I've seen is 31F.

Wrap-On Pipe Heating Cable 3'
Like most of the east coast we were hit with abelow freezing temps and I feared our pipe wraps were too old and might not keep our pipes from freezing. We looked every where in our area and surrounding areas to find that every retailer was sold out and not sure when their stock would be replenished. I looked on Amazon and found an even better product with the thermostat , in longer lengths and the prices were good, infact they were lower that what I was quoted from some local retailers for those without the thermostat "if and when" their stock arrived. Amazon had sold out, but had shipments coming in in the next couple of days and I was thrilled to wait that short period of time, knowing that the cable was sold and shipped by Amazon and my Prime gave me free shipping in two days, but they managed to get it a day earlier than expected. This "Wrap-On " water pipe wrap is quality , both in material and design. It comes with a thermostate that heats the pipes to about 38 degrees F to prevent freezing! It comes with very good stuctions on safety of placement, insulation to use and placement location. The product description online is acurate and helpful for my understanding of a new product and the needed materials to uith the installation. I am very happy with this product

No more frozen pioes
I bought this for the outdoor pipe for my tankless water heater. The first year I had the tankless water heater, the pipes froze after several days and nights of temperatures in the teens. Ever since applying this to my outdoor pipes, I have never had frozen pipes again. Great purchase. I’ll never leave my pipes naked again! Easy to install and very easy to use when you do need to plug it in to warm up cold pipes.Highly recommend.

Well protection
I bought this to wrap around the pipe coming out of my well to keep it from freezing. It did the job and the pipe did not freeze in 15 degree weather. Using this was better than leaving a faucet dripping all night.

Perfect to Keep Water Flowing Very Cold Temperatures.
It was quick and easy to wrap on the exposed water line. Temperatures in Northwest Indiana can get really frigid in winter, but this seems to be the answer to prevent the exposed waterlines to the watering trough from freezing.

Does not work for keeping pipes from freezing
We have a high-efficiency gas furnace which requires a drain for the water it creates during combustion. The drain goes through a hole in our fieldstone foundation and then drains harmlessly outside in the garden. Normally, we don't have an issue. Occasionally, though it gets cold enough that the foundation goes below 32 degrees and the pipe freezes. For years, I used some old hearing pads wrapped around the pipe to keep it from freezing and that worked well. However, I thought I should get something made for this type of application. I bought this pipe wrap last year and it never got cold enough where it was needed. This year it's been very warm except for this spell of frigid weather and we woke up to -10 this morning. Great, I thought. I can check how well that pipe wrap is doing. Turns out, it wasn't. Went down to find water on the basement floor where the furnace could not drain because the pipes were frozen. Back to my heating pads, which fixed it all up.Don't bother buying this. It doesn't work. At least, not for wrapping the pipe.

The product works, but the instructions are terrible.
This works fine, but the instructions are terrible. The picture on the package shows it wrapped around the pipe in a spiral fashion, but the instructions say not to wrap it in a spiral. The instructions also say you can't use an extension cord. The cord that comes with it is only inches long. How many people have an electrical outlet inches from the pipe?
