A wealth of real estate development issues summarized in one book -- a valuable resource.
This book is a great introduction to the field of real estate development. Anyone thinking of investing in, or developing real estate should definitely read this book. Real estate projects are obviously big-ticket items, involving tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars, so who wouldn't invest just a few dollars to purchase this book, to protect their investment of time and money? So many areas are covered by the author, including risks you probably never thought of, which you can then prevent from happening to you. After reading the book you will feel like you have gained the knowledge to address whatever issues might come up for any project – supply and demand, finances, market analysis, construction issues, and the law. If this book helps you avoid a single misstep in the course of any project, then the book will have been worth its weight in gold. The more you know, the more likely it is that you will profit – which (let's face it) is the whole point of developing real estate. I would highly recommend this book as a great resource for anyone working in the field of real estate development.

A “must read” book!
This is a brilliant book for urban planning and architecture practitioners and students who are looking for a great, useful, and comprehensive introduction into real-estate development subject. The subject very-well broadens architects’ understanding of the factors that affect new projects and design decisions. The book also makes an excellent reference and reading in any architecture and planning program (undergraduate or graduate) as it provides comprehensive understanding about financial, planning, and marketing aspects of multi-faceted real estate development projects and developers’ decision making. Lots of useful and practical information about market analysis, the planning process, and project management.I am impressed by all the informative and insightful practical case studies that are greatly contributing to the readability and understanding of the topics and real-life application of the book. So, this is an excellent addition to any architecture/planning library.

Not worth the effort
I am a licensed architect and have done real estate development for over 30 years. I now teach real estate development and investment courses at a major university in Chicago. I examined this book for possible use in my course. Decided not a good option. There are much better books on real estate development out there. Try those other books, especially those published by the Urban Land Institute.

An excellent introduction to real estate development and finance
In engineering, we discuss risk in connection with the failure of structures, so having a book that looks at the financial and planning risks associated with development projects is a welcomed addition to my library. A useful. This book covers all aspects of the development process from economic analysis, marketing, design and project management. Well illustrated with numerous charts, graphs, diagrams, and photos. The section on design and construction will be particularly useful to those who are not familiar with this aspect of development. I suggest this book to those who are work with engineers and need a basic primer on design, construction and project management.

Book Review
“Introduction to Real Estate Development and Finance” is a wonderful book - descriptive, analytical, and insightful. In this book, Dr. Richard Levy provides readers with a basic understanding of the principles that underlie real estate development. Most important, he elucidates a brief historical overview and an introduction to basic principles followed by examples from practice. The case studies on how cities change and respond to the economic, technological, social, and political forces that shape urban development in North America should be of particular interest to those who work in both the private and public sector.
