Belly doesn't know who she is without summers at Cousins Beach. She doesn't know what to make of Conrad's apathy or the distance that's grown between them since last summer. In a year where so many things have changed, Belly isn't sure if she can keep pining for Conrad. All she really knows is that when Jeremiah calls to tell her that Conrad has disappeared, she has to help find him in It's Not Summer Without You (2010) by Jenny Han. It's Not Summer Without You is the second book in Han's Summer trilogy which begins in The Summer I Turned Pretty. Belly narrates most of this book with a few chapters interspersed from Jeremiah's point of view. Belly spends so much of this series focused on Conrad that it was interesting to see more of Jeremiah's perspective. With the addition of Jeremiah's chapters and the story shifting away from Cousins, all of the characters are more developed here. The tension between Belly and both Fisher boys is palpable as all three try to reconcile themselves to the loss of the summer cocoon that used to bind them together. It's Not Summer Without You is a melancholy installment but the series is stronger because of it as another layer of depth is added to the story. Han takes the familiar elements from The Summer I Turned Pretty and inverts them to make this an entirely new reading experience. A must-read for fans of the series and as much of a page-turner as you're likely to find in a breezy contemporary--let's just say I gasped more than once as I made my way to the end of this book! Possible Pairings: Stay Sweet by Siobhan Vivian, Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum, Love and Other Perishable Items by Laura Buzo, Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen, I Believe in a Thing Called Love by Maurene Goo, Nantucket Blue by Leila Howland, The Museum of Heartbreak by Meg Leder, The Boyfriend List by E. Lockhart, When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon,Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler Review: Deeper Than Summer: A Stronger Sequel - I enjoyed It’s Not Summer Without You even more than the first book. The story goes deeper emotionally, especially with the grief and heartbreak both Belly and the Fisher boys are facing. I felt more connected to the characters this time around—Belly’s growth really shows, and the complicated dynamics between her, Conrad, and Jeremiah kept me hooked. This sequel has more heart, more tension, and more emotional weight. It’s still a summer romance at its core, but it also explores love, loss, and growing up in a way that felt more real and engaging than book one. Definitely made me want to dive right into the next book.

Jenny Han does it again.
Jenny Han has done what she does best: ripped our hearts out just enough to make us love her for it. In the second installment of this beloved trilogy, she crafts a deliciously nostalgic tale that catapults any adult straight back to those unforgettable years of first love, growing pains, and endless emotional rollercoasters. Told through the honest, sometimes messy narration of Belly—and now Jeremiah—this story is painfully relatable. We've all been there: torn between what we want and what we need, dancing around feelings to protect others while quietly self-destructing, or running from the hard stuff just to avoid heartbreak. It's like looking in a mirror and seeing your teenage self blinking back, wide-eyed and overwhelmed. Jenny Han doesn’t just write characters—she breathes life into them. Belly, Jeremiah, and Conrad are more than just players in a love triangle; they’re reflections of our own past choices, regrets, and what-ifs. As you read, you’ll catch yourself reflecting on your own journey, rethinking those pivotal moments that shaped who you are today. This book is tragic and beautiful. It aches. It haunts. It guts you in all the best ways. It’s the kind of emotional chaos that makes you want to hug the book when you're done (and maybe throw it across the room a little, too). In short? It’s a ride. A wild, tearjerking, heart-squeezing ride. Buckle up—and bring tissues.

A Different Pace, Still Worth Reading
It’s Not Summer Without You is the second book in the series, and while it’s not my usual genre, I still liked it. The pace is slower, but the storyline isn’t bad and focuses more on emotions and character development. It kept my interest and worked well as a continuation of the series.

Best book ever
Best book ever I really love personally how it looks and girls if your team Conrad or Jeremiah let me know cause I’m team Conrad here and trust me when I’m saying these are like the best books. They’re the best they calm me down. They are really relaxing pretty much if you’re interested in the show, you’ll understand with the three books. Tell you. And what they mean and also they added more stuff to the books than what they added in the show so it might sound like if you’re reading something else but in reality you’re not you’re just reading like the whole entire book so give it a try and let me know what you think. Thank you Amazon for sending me these books. I really loved them.

The Summer I Turned Pretty).
