I picked up the Amazon Basic Care Daytime Cold and Flu Relief Liquid Caps during a rough winter cold, and honestly, they were a lifesaver. Within about 20–30 minutes, the worst symptoms—pressure, cough, and that heavy “flu fog”—started to ease up. What I appreciate most is that they’re truly non-drowsy. I was able to keep working, stay focused, and go about my day without feeling wired or sluggish. The softgels are easy to swallow, and the 48‑count pack is a great value compared to name brands. The relief is comparable to the big-name daytime formulas, but at a fraction of the price. For me, it handled the full lineup: sore throat, congestion, mild fever, and that annoying cough that always shows up at the worst time.

Amazon's basic care daytime cold and flu softgels have the same active ingredients (acetaminophen, dextromethorphan HBr, phenylephrine HCI) as the name brand version of this but at a much more reasonable price, which I appreciate. This is a must have staple for cold and flu season. It did not make my cold magically go away, but it did help me feel better. It also helped me get over my cold just a tad bit faster. Plus it did so while not making me feel drowsy nor anxious. However, there are two things I dislike. The first is that the blister packs the softgels come in are not just child proof; they are adult proof as well. They are a pain in the rear to get open. If you dont have scissors, knife, blade etc your not getting these open any time soon. I kid you not, you have to saw your way to them. Imagine yourself all miserable, weak, and sick while fighting teeth and nail to get one dang dose popped out of this. Its awful. There has to be a better way. The 2nd thing I don't like is that they sometimes get stuck in my throat. Even after drinking pleny of water it lingers in the throat. Eventually softgel passes but the feeling is uncomfortable. Sure, they huge softgels but I have had huge softgels before. There is just something about these that often causes them to stick in my throat. If I had to guess, I think the softgel coating starts to melt too quickly causing the sticky residue to stick. Good basic cold medicine but softgel swallowing ease and package opening needs improvement.
