Q: Does this feeder have an easy clean base?

No, it does not have the easy clean base. It requires a Phillips tip screwdriver to remove the base for cleaning. I bought a short piece of 1/4" aluminum rod at a local home/lumber store and cut it 5 3/4" long, smoothed the ends, notched it about 1 1/2" in where the mesh lines up and inserted it into the screw holes. Like the short perch that came with some of my other Droll Yankees New Generation feeders. Now, I just need to slide the rod out to remove the base, no more screw driver needed and my finches have a place to perch, if they like. I have enough rod left for several more perches and it only cost a couple of bucks and a little bit of time.

Q: Can you use sunflower seed chips and or hearts?

I've only used thistle seed with this feeder. The holes are pretty small. I also have a feeder that looks about the same but it has woven wire screen instead that permits the use of sunflower seeds.

Q: How do you take off the bottom to clean this feeder?

I had to use PLIERS to pull out the bottom perch (the metal bar). Then I could pull out the yellow part and then the black part inside.
