High quality, affordable and compact tool
I recently bought the REDCAMP military folding shovel as a Christmas gift for a friend. I was very impressed with the quality of the tool. The combination shovel and sturdy pick is great. The shovel blade has a small serrated edge. This compact unit folds and fits perfectly in the attached pouch. The pouch takes almost no room in the trunk of the car and is light enough to carry in your emergency "get home bag". This is a must have tool for anyone who travels in snow or mud, or country or mountainous driving situations. I liked it so much I ordered another for myself! This is a high quality and affordable tool. You might never need it but if you do, you will be grateful to have it.

Durable
Just as durable as the others at lesser cost. Took to Crater of diamonds national Park. Has been a solid prospecting tool. Kids have really enjoyed using it.

As advertised foldable shovel
I bought this for an winter emergency car kit and thankfully I have not had to use it. I like that it folds and I like that it will be more solid and durable than the plastic shovel that I had used. However, it is heavy and adds to the weight of my emergency kit.

Great little shovel
Perfect for keeping in the car or using when camping. One of those, you don't need it till you really need it items. Love that it is compact and easy to store. I have mine in the back of my car and it came in clutch when emptying the fire pit at a campsite.

It's just like my original!
This was a pleasant surprise. For the money, I half expected a large spoon made from aluminum tin foil... But, I was very happy to see it turned out to be (almost) exactly like my 1st, military issued- that is still in service today. It rides in the cargo box on my 4-Wheeler though and I needed another one for my trekking pack - not only to dig my fire pits, but to serve as a backup for the (however unlikely) event I need to cut fire wood (again, while backpacking and tent camping along the way) and my folding pocket saw, pocket chainsaw with the paracord handles, 1 of my multi-tools that has an axe on the opposite end of a hammer - good for maybe hanging a picture or driving a little bitty tack, but in an emergency - the serrated blade on my once leatherman cut enough saplings up to 2" maples to make a shelter (that was just for fun though) or anything else that I have fails/is lost, broken, stolen (never know what those crazy squirrels are gonna steal next! Lol) This is sharp enough, thick and sturdy enough, and has the added value of a comfortable handle, that enables a 2 hand grip, AND the added value of force by way of distance, angle & direction. Fully extended, this would be capable of lethal force when weilded by the right set of hands. We were trained to use these for -- nevermind, I mean, they are great, lightweight yet sturdy tools for digging in a sleep hole. I love the Carry case, it's just a cheap canvas thing that won't last long but the thought definitely counts in my opinion. Considering that I looked at many of these and saw some that were absolute garbage- and that this one is nearly identical to the 1st one I was issued over 30 years ago, I think this is a bargain! And so--- I definitely - without a doubt - RECOMMEND this product!! Thanks for reading. ~€mjey "Providing you- the next civilian and fellow customer, a genuine, honest and most importantly - a non-incentivized review of the consumer goods I have bought with my own hard earned money, tested with real world application under a broad scope of knowledge of many things. Will need improvement
Seems like these are made with surplus e tool parts. Possibly taking parts from several broken e tools and putting them together to make one. There was a large gap where the shovel and locking mechanism meet. I would recommend buying some washers and putting them in there to reduce play. If not, use may cause damage to the shovel, eventually breaking. A flaw that could be fixed with about $0.25. The spade itself is heavy, good for field use. The handle seems weak and i would inspect regularly after use. I would recommend possibly stopping by a surplus store instead unless there are none around you.
