Good for any Sci Fi fan
Even if you do not play EVE online the universe/back-story in the book is very rich with deep sci fi concepts and interesting story. Apparently this IP (intellectual property) will become a TV series sometime in the future and If the small trailers are any indication (CCP games channel on you tube - check out trailers), it will be great entertainment. The book is a very polished delivery of back-story for several different empires. Great overview of the races and how they built up their empires - they are so different from each other and all their technology reflects how they emerged. They cover important characters in each empire and key historical events. Also covered are pirate gangs and other organizations - favorite was the Blood Raiders origins. The artwork is fantastic - noir, mostly moody dark images that feel perfect for the writing. The art alone merits the price. There's even a detailed diagram of a dissected starship which is very well done. The writings on space travel technology actually make sense. The only problem I have with the book is the quality of the physical book. Fingerprints are left behind as soon as you touch it. The kindle version is a real let-down. It's scanned in! And since the type is arty and small - it's too hard to read on a reader. Real shame because the hard cover is to nice to lug around.Great content, great art, great story line. Recommend it highly.

A useful compilation, but little new information.
Eve Source is a compilation of the lore of Eve Online. Eve Online is more than a video game. It is in fact a virtual world where the players themselves have nearly as much control over the society, institutions, and market economy as the company that writes the software. One thing that attracts people to Eve Online is it's rich lore of history, political factions, races, and technology. The hardcover Eve Source book is a beautifully bound volume with large displays of artwork. It incorporates a large amount of information about the factions, technology, ships, and culture of Eve. There are also a few short stories to illustrate the difference between cultures. Eve players will find this an interesting read. This is the game board upon which the players of the game create the true plot. The only criticism of Eve Source is that you could browse through a few hundred web pages and read a few novels set in the Eve universe to find 95% of the information in this book. It's a convenient compilation, but has little new information.

Exactly what you expect.
This book has a lot of substance, almost every other page is pure text, which is great for those who are into the New Eden lore. It goes over every faction, covers the major history of New Eden, the important people, and the ways people live their lives. If you bought the EVE second decade collector box you'd definitely enjoy this. There isn't the same magnitude of original art as that, but like I said it has far more substance.I got this for about 33 % off pre-ordered on Amazon, so the only reason why it doesn't get 5 is that some of the binding near the end was loose. I don't assume that everyone's copy will be like that, but it's a bit disappointing and keeps me from giving the book a 4.5. Also the Algos cross section, was just kinda thrown in at a random spot, and there were no other cross sections, which was a disappointment (though I love the Algos)As for new art or lore, nothing much is new, but having it all in one book printed beautifully makes it worth it.

Information-laden. Comes with great art too.
The media could not be loaded. EVE: Source is a nice book that fills in the backstory of the Eve Online. Old-timers will probably get the most out of this information-laden guide to the sci-fi universe. The book doesn't talk about the game, but it covers the lore, about 10 years worth since the game was released in 2003.The content is grouped into the different existing factions, with a little introduction to New Eden. Each faction is presented with history, politics, traits and people. It's pretty much a world-building kind of book. What we have here is a tightly woven sci-fi lore collection. It's a large 200-page hardcover. I've read other reviews commenting on the book's spine. It uses perfect binding, stitched and glued. Mine looks alright so far.Oh, there are many beautiful sci-fi art included. Spaceships, worlds, glamour shots of the factions. Very detailed and high quality artworks.Recommended to all EVE players.(See more pictures of the book on my blog. Just visit my Amazon profile for the link.)

EVE: Source - a jump into New Eden
4 stars...not 5, why? The Eve source is a great and - I can say - essential tool for wh wants to understand the EVE world, despite that conclusion, I find the "ancient hystory" is not developed so well as, for example, in the Tony Gonzales novel "The Empirean Age" where, even if in a non-technical and non-hystorical way, I think it's developed in a better way. Or on the EVE online website itself. What I miss from this volume is attention to what happened in the very past of New Eden, from when the Milky Way inhabitants found a path to a new unexplored cluster to the birth of the new civilizations in New Eden.Having said that, EVE Source is definitely a good hystorical book and full of wonderful artworks. And I recommend it to every EVE player or just evaluator who wants to know more about the New Eden history.

Buyer beware
This book is not an output product from CCP the game manufacture. The book is printed and published by Dark Horse. This is NOT the LEATHER BOUND version that has been shown by CCP. The content does come from CCP. The cover is the usual paper & cardboard and the spline is done up in the standard cord & glue. The spline will break at some point while your reading. While the paper quality in the book is better than what is usually used the printing and picture quality is very low. So why am I not sending this back? Because the CCP writing and information is exactly what EVE game players expect.

A universe in 195 pages
I wasn't entirely sure what EVE: Source was when I pre-ordered it, whether it was an art book, lore guide or history of the universe, but I was happy to see it was all in equal measure. EVE: Source is to put it simply, the best single guide to the lore of New Eden available, and while most of the content found within has been available in some lesser form through EVELopedia, for even non subscribers to peruse, this book represents a new level of polish on it all, which long time EVE players will most definitely appreciate. In order to explain EVE's dizzying 10 year pile of written lore, the content is split between EVE's factions, with the history and ideology of each clearly laid out to the reader, doing the best job of any medium of explaining what makes each one tick. Add to that sections specifically related to capsuleers, the player controlled characters in the game, and you have a pretty complete guide the story of EVE. All this is punctuated with character accounts and short stories. Pretty much every section is accompanied with a great amount of illustration, from concept art to renders, it lends a lot of context to the dark world explained in the passages, and is all of high quality and varied from space vistas to barren battlefields, the macro and the micro. If I had to draw negatives out, It is that I was after an even more comprehensive book, In writing this review, I had to reign myself in, and constantly remind myself that EVE: Source is only the backdrop for the goings on in EVE, it is merely the context of the sandbox which all EVE players conduct our antics in. Because of this, I hope CCP produces more books like this, to fill out the EVE universe even more.To summarise, the content is a good read for EVE players who want get in running on EVE's back story, while being treated to some good artwork and a well assembled book. It is not a single storyline, nor is it an Infographic laden 'factfile'.

If you're a fan of EVE, or just started, it's a good buy.
Whether you're new to EVE, or a Veteran, this book adds to your commemorative library shelf as something which stands out.Let's face it, there hasn't been that many physical items from the Universe of EVE to own and brag about. This book however, acts as a trophy of your involvement in the game, even when you've retired, or taking a break. The book itself is a condensed version of an encyclopaedia of EVE. It describes the origins of each faction, and a little history about each. There are short stories, and many art pictures to gaze at. Make no mistake, this book's facts does not surpass any EVE Wiki site out there on the internet. If you're looking for specific information about the Lai Dai, or Ishukone, a Wiki page from the web would yield better results. The beauty of the book lies literally... well, on the beauty of it. It is constructed and formatted in the most eye-orgasmic way, it would be a shame not to own it.There is however, no source of any of the ships' details or specifications. If you're thinking of getting the book to learn more about your favourite ship, you will be disappointed. All in all, for the price, this is worth owning. It is not overpriced. Sure you could gather all the facts and figures from a Wiki site, and bunch it altogether, but can you execute it all as beautifully as CCP and Dark Horse did? Probably not.

Stunning
Having been an Eve player for over 10 years since the Beta, some would say that I might be biased in my review.Unashamedly yesThis book carries detailed background on the first steps into space, the collapse of the Eve Gate and the following rebuilding of the Empires to where they stand today. There is some stunning new artwork within. If you are an eve player then is this is a great book to add more depth to your game.If you are not an eve player but love background universes and stunning artwork then this is a great read.
