As part of my 2022 Reading Resolution, I kick-started this year with a short story collection from my auto-buy author, Ruskin Bond. Published in 1989, 'Time Stops at Shamli' is a sequel of 'The Night Train at Deoli' where the author step off the train to explore Shamli and discover a few things about himself before continuing the journey to Saharanpur.This collection has other short stories in the form of memoir and prose. "I let the window down and stuck my head out.There was a cool breeze blowing the platform, a breeze that whispered of autumn in the hills." I simply cherish his writing as it brings me to the serenity and choas of hill life where little things matters.His memoirs are remarkable for it's humbleness and simplicity.I identify Ruskin Bond as a person who stay thousands of miles away from the stupidities of this world. He has born to be a writer, it is only through his stories, a tiger can roar out his loneliness, a crow can find a place among other colorful birds, a wind can echo the voice of the dead lovers, a floating stream can resemble the music of a chirping bird. Farmers, railway-watchman, school children, ghosts, seasons, old relatives, truck drivers, servants, gardeners, wildflowers, birds and animals forms the characters of his stories.They together evokes the spirits of a child inside you. "I sat on the bed, in front of the open window.A cool breeze, smelling of rain, came through the window and played over my body." He is an excellent storyteller who discovers India in its small towns.I find myself lost in his literary banquet.I could feel the warmthness of nature and the immaculate emotions of ordinary human beings while reading his books.This book is not an exception. This will refresh your soul.This will teach you how to stay simple.This will make you an unadorned human. Don't stress yourself with high expectations, just dive into his kind of storytelling.

Have always loved Ruskin Bond...good book to unwind..

Bought this book from Amazon on 19 May and the delivery was swift and fast. Good service. About the book, I bought it reading the reviews on it. Honestly the book disappointed me. Ruskin Bond is famous in writing the things that touch the bottom of heart of the readers. In this book he has done same, no doubt, but the scattered stories of the book will leave you unsatisfied finally. In the whole book there're almost 20-25 separate short stories, which in your mind you'll try to find link with the others but you'll horribly fail. Did not like the content much. That's why rated 3 stars only.
