The WH31L Lightning Detector identifies stormy activities within 25 miles (40km) from your location. The RF915MHz wireless range is 330 feet of sight line (100 feet under most conditions). This personal lightning detector is activated by detecting electromagnetic pulse (EMP) emitted by lightning strikes. By measuring the strength of the detected EMP, the device can estimate the distance from the detected strike. The sensor has 3 settings to adjust the sensitivity to avoid interference. Add to Ambient Weather WS-2000 and WS-5000 weather stations.

Sensors transmit this information once every 79 seconds to your preferred display console or our cloud service AmbientWeather.net. Then you can access the information from the console, online dashboard, Alexa, Google Home, IFTTT, etc. You can also send email, text and IFTTT alerts.

Personal lightning detector cannot measure the exact position of a lightning strike, and is sensitive to false alarm. It works well in terms of ability to detect nearby lightning but is a very basic feature compared to a professional thunder detector. For example, you can't know where the lightning strikes were and what direction the lightning is approaching, and you just have a lightning bolt in the area. Also, as personal lightning detectors are triggered by EMP, interference from other EMP radiation devices (electronics, consumer electronics, fluorescent lights, and even car engines) may cause false alerts or misplaced strikes. This interference provides an additional effect that prevents personal lightning detectors from working properly, indoors or near electronic devices.
