Good dominoes but severely let down by the price
I bought these for my GF's ailing and ageing father who has severe macular degeneration. Sadly he is having severe problems seeing/identifying his regular slightly 'oversized' dominoes and trying to find anything around double the size and at the same time feels premium in-hand was an almost impossible task — until I found these. The vast majority of 'much-larger-than-normal' dominoes out there are made from cheap, thin materials, with bizarrely coloured dots, and they tend to be gigantic i.e. larger than playing cards, which makes then useless for playing on a table. These dominoes are exactly the size I was looking for i.e. as near to double the size of regular dominoes as possible, but still made from decent materials...and with stark, contrasting colours i.e. black dots on white/cream. However, as happy as I was to find these I was very reluctant to pay the price — a whopping best part of £40. You can actually buy regular sized premium dominoes which are even higher quality for a quarter of this price. I do suspect the manufacturer/sellers of this set realise all too well that no one else seems to be selling anything similar online and are taking advantage. Despite my reluctance, I eventually took a deep breath and bought these as the poor old fella can't even watch TV or read any more and one of his very few remaining pleasures is Dominoes. It's not a perfect solution but he has much less difficulty identifying these and he has the added bonus of being able to feel/count the large dots with his thumb when he struggles. They lack a brass stud on them like other premium dominoes, but they are still very good. If they were priced at a much more realistic £25 I would have given them five stars. £30 would get four — but the best part of forty quid is a bit much for what you are getting. If you are in a real fix while wishing to do a nice deed for someone with minimal eyesight, and an inflated price is not a deal-breaker, then I do indeed recommend this set. Perhaps the November sales will see these come down to a much more realistic price?

Playing Puerto Rican dominos—better known as “bones” on the island—isn’t just a game; it’s a cultural experience. From the slap of the tiles on the table to the competitive banter and lively energy, it brings people together in the most authentic way. The tiles themselves are usually heavier and sturdier than standard dominos, with bold black dots on a white background for easy visibility. The classic double-six or double-nine sets are the most common, and they feel solid in your hands—perfect for those intense slams that are part of the fun. The game is fast-paced, strategic, and social. Whether you’re playing at a family gathering, a street corner, or a domino table at a festival, the vibe is always full of laughter and pride. It’s not just about winning—it’s about the connection, tradition, and showing off your skills. If you’re looking to experience a piece of Puerto Rican culture, getting a set of dominos and learning the rules is a great place to start. Just be ready to bring your A-game—and maybe a little trash talk, too.
