Is there a decibel rating on the noise (fan, etc) or a comparison to the noise of other projectors? Do you have to crank the surround sound to 11?

We use this projector outside on our deck. I sit directly underneath it when we watch shows and movies. I have never heard the fan while watching content, only after I am done and I want to shut it down will I realize the fan is on. We don't have the sound cranked because we do have neighbors :)

Does it have to mount to a ceiling or can I set it on a shelf?

It can go on a shelf (which I've done) or mounted on the ceiling. You'll have to purchase a bracket to mount it on the ceiling.

How do i get a wifi connection with this? can i use a usb wifi adapter?

I believe so. It's not built in
