Why so expensive? can't you get a 750w inverter from harbor freight for 50$?? also, how big inverter needed to run typical house fridge?

I have a large LG fridge with french doors etc. I may be wrong but I believe this is the largest residential not professional restaurant size model. ANd inside the fridge is a plate that says it requires 350 watts. I ran it all day during a recent power outage in my town with a 1000 watt Bluetti power station. I am pretty sure the 700 watt could handle it and have enough power to plug in an led desklamp after dark. Interestingly the label on the bottom gives all kind of specs but doesn't say where it was built. (I think like most of them it was made in China.) Nice light unit, but I like my 2000 watt better but it needs at least 200 Ah battery power to run it. This one does fine on the little 50Ah battery Renogy offers.

do I need a fuse protector?

You will definitely want one. It doesn’t come with power leads nor a fuse. It’s a 3kw with a 6kw peak inverter, simple math (6,000/12v=500A) so I have a double 250A fuse (in parallel) over 1/0 leads (8’ away from the battery bank). You can try to play it safe and go with a 300A fuse, but if it surges when starting up a large draw, you could blow it. Or contact the manufacturer to follow their recommendations. I look at as the fuse is protecting the rest of my system from the inverter if it fails.

Can this inverter be tied into the control panel so all outlets work in a travel trailer?

Designed for hardwired outlets..but try to ground it (the inverter unit itself with 8-10 AWG wire) to the chassis as safety**and frequency noise for tv and sound systems may benefit.

Why is this a converter when it's converting 12v dc to 110v ac?

I teach electronics. We teach that if you are DC-DC it is a converter. If it is AC-DC or DC-AC it is an inverter. HERE'S WHY: In DC-DC you are converting one voltage to another while changing the amount of current available. Convert 12VDC to 24VDC and you get 24VDC at 1/2 the current. Convert 24VDC to 12VDC and yo get 12 VDC at twice the current...... assuming zero loses which there will be some losses. The ONLY thing required is a transformer with the correct turns ratio for the desired output from the available input. INVERTING AC to DC or DC to AC is a more complicated process and is especially so when attempting to create a true sign wave AC signal from DC.
