Other Brother models are known to "wast a inch of paper". Does this waste paper on each label printed?

YES......IT WASTES EXPENSIVE LABEL PAPER. There is no way around it, however. By its design, it cannot begin printing any nearer than about an inch from the edge of the label ribbon. And yes........ YOU CAN SET IT TO SHORT MARGINS.....and that will produce a short-margin label, but only after AUTOMATICALLY CHOPPING OFF ABOUT A 1" PIECE of label ribbon as it begins to print. It would be nice if they could design the label ribbon to be retracted into the printer that same 1" before it prints, so that there is no waste. But since wasting label rolls sends you to the reorder store more frequently, they are not in a hurry to make that modification. I also have a P-touch D400, and I am finding that is still my "go-to" label printer when I just need a quick label. It is not near as complicated. In fairness, I may learn to love the capabilities of this D600 PC, but I have not explored all of that yet.

How many tapes can you store in the case?

I've received my printer & case. The tape storage area is small, only 3.6" in depth. Call that your 'budget'. The thickness of the individual cartridges appears to be a tenth of an inch bigger than the tape size, with a minimum cartridge thickness of 0.65". So, the 1" tape is 1.1" thick, the 3/4" tape is 0.85" thick, and the 1/2" & 1/4" tapes are the minimum thickness of 0.65" (I assume the 3/8" is too). Add up your selections until you run out of budget to see how many tapes you can store. Using that method, you can store three 1" tapes, four 3/4" tapes, or 5 of the minimum-size tapes. Or whatever mix you choose that fills the budget, like one of each (the 1", 3/4", 1/2", and 1/4" cartridges add up to 3.25").

Does it work with mac

It may work with MAC, but it does NOT work with iPhone 14 or latest iOS 16. I called Brother tech and they haven't updated the bluetooth since iPhone 11!
