Great organic potting soil.
This potting soil has no fertilizer which is what I wanted. You have to layer the soil and then sprinkle with watering can and then mix the soil with your hands to moisten it. I did this several times so that it was moist when I transplanted an Amaryllis bulb.

My order was insect free!
This was the Espoma potting soiling I've ordered in the past because it's hard to find in our local stores. No problems with fungus gnats. I did leave the opened bag outside under cover (i.e. did not store in garage sealed or unsealed) and have seen no evidence of the critters mentioned in other reviews. I have held off using it for indoor pots until I was sure nothing invasive would emerge. Seems just fine.

Easy to use!
It is not suitable for indoor use. After a week, there are many small flying insects in the pot. I can't buy another mosquito lamp, but the plants are growing well! It is only suitable for outdoor use, not indoor use!

extremely HEAVY
However, box should have been marked EXTREMELY HEAVY. As i hurt my arm moving it, not knowing what was inside!!!

BUYER BEWARE: FUNGUS GNATS
NEVER AGAIN!!!! After repotting a few plants with this soil, I had a fungus gnat outbreak. I treated in the usual way, with yellow sticky traps. No dice. I upped the ante with BTI and watered per instructions. The gnats kept coming. THEN, I opened the bin where I’d store the Espoma soil…and…a giant cloud of of gnats buzzed into the air. The gnats were inside the bag!! The soil itself had been incubating a monstrous gnat infestation. Espoma DID refund me, reluctantly. The refund was for the soil and NOT for the loss of my plants. UPDATE: I had to throw out three lovely plants that became infested with fungus gnats AFTER I repotted them with this soil. UGH!!! I treated my plants three times for gnats and the plants that I’d used this soil for didn’t recover. I’m still treating the rest with BTI hoping to ward off more gnats. A sad expensive waste. NEVER EVER EVER AGAIN.

Infested with gnats
The reviews I read about the soil being infested with gnats were from 2019-2020 so I thoughts the issue had been resolved. Nope, not at all. My soil was completely infested. I ordered it the same day I ordered my roses online. My roses took about 3 weeks to arrive so I didn’t even bother opening the box the soil came in. When I was ready to plant I immediately noticed the outside of the box (it was stored inside the house) was infested with gnats. I took the bug zapper and zapped as many as I could. Then I took the box outside and opened it there. Same thing again. Completely infested with gnats. I zapped as many as I could again. Lastly I opened just a little corner of the bag and looked inside to see the soil completely infested. I shook up the bag and put the zapper right at the opening. This zapped them as soon as they tried to escape. Once I was satisfied that they were 99% gone I finally got to potting my roses in containers. I poured a 1:1 water/peroxide mixture onto the soil to kill off any larvae that was still in the mixture and then topped off each container with mint compose. I haven’t had any issues (bug wise) with my plants after taking so many precautions. If I had to order again I 100% wouldn’t. For the price I was expecting much better quality control.
