How heat resistant is this table protector? If I sat a hot pan from the oven on it, would it damage it?

Can you write on top of this surface?

The plastic is nice and thick and the endges are finished. Not sure I totally understand your question but I think what you mean is can you write on a piece of paper on top of the plastic. If that is your question then yes. The plastic we ordered is for a round table. We are very happy with the quality of the plastic and the finished edge but it is not true round. There is about a 1" gap on one of the edges.
