This phone has a ‘Boost’ button so the person who needs amplicafion can push it and the other person can select the volume up or down buttons.

Q: Can the answering machine be turned off?

Yes, we turned the answering machine off so that Comcast can send the text of the message to an email. We love this idea.

Q: Does this come with one extra handset and receptacle" or is it just one handset, one base answering machine?

It comes with just the base answering machine and one handset, as shown in the picture. It does not include a second handset and receptacle. Additional handsets are available for purchase separately. I bought the original handset & answering machine base and then later bought a second handset for my bedroom.
