Nippon_Kodo Myrrh is expansively grounding This product approaches two objective qualities of the VERY FINEST INCENSES which experts value worldwide- 1) Superior incenses present as pure perfume. All hints of 'burnt-cardboard' cellulose smokiness is so rare, so minimal- so well integrated- it seems absent. We perceive no mechanics, only a wonder with nature Like many great joss sticks, this myrhh initially presents a bit of cellulose smoke; then just as quickly a godhead aroma of myrhh transforms the joss into a temple of meditations 2) Truly valuable Woods and Resins leave a room with a full-bodied presence for days. Now, myrhhs are a genuine 'base-note' resin; relatively subtle. They permeate more slowly than mid-notes such as Sandal heart-woods. Given regular use, Myrhh and Aloes will gradually define presence in closed rooms. And though this is a not liturgical heap of resin-tears warming over coals- somehow this NK stick lingers with the very few, the finest myrhhs I have ever encountered in my 60 years of myrhh appreciations Given the presence of such special qualities, now that NK's supreme $40 red box of purple Rosewood joss-sticks is no longer marketed, I suggest that NK Myrrh is now utterly unique among all Japanese "daily use" incenses. I use Nippon_Kodo Myrrh just as often as I use the very best aloeswood I can afford. Perhaps more, bc I will quite literally chain-smoke this product when market conditions allow. However... Even perfume wholesalers must control their hoarding impulses. Myrrh products in particular have disappeared cyclically as East-Africa's raw Myrrh eco-markets crash. Very good scent , and it is less smoke . The scent isn’t obscured by charcoal. Doesn’t burn too long but it definitely makes up for in the scent . Highly recommend this brand

Heavenly scent! I have been burning the cedar for 22 years with little desire to experiment, but this was the perfect, exactly the warm, slightly spiced woody, sweetly resinous fragrance I was hoping for. Has a natural freshness and richness I associate more with solid resins.

This is hands down my favorite incense. I use several sticks a day for Zazen and shrine offerings. This incense is NOT Frankincense (in fact there is no detectable scent of Frankincense). Instead, this appears to be a lighter Japanese version of Indian stick incense (Dhoop- sometimes sold in the U.S. under the brand name- Nag Champa), which I imagine might explain the weird choice in naming this incense (Dhoop usually has some frankincense in it). The actual scent carries notes of cedar, cinnamon, and driftwood. Comparing Dhoop with this, Morningstar "Frankincense" is less sweet, less smoky and much lighter. Perfect for those who don't want to be choking while they meditate! The sticks are traditional for Zen, and will last 25-30 minutes- this is a feature, not an error. These kinds of sticks are used in lieu of clocks in a Zendo for timing meditation periods.
