Q: I ordered this and it did not come with a bosch sensor, the generic it came with worked for about 45mins. is the seller responsible for this?

Same thing here. I had to return two of them before I finally got them to agree to send a bosch sensor. Easiest is to get a bosch sensor separately at your FLAPS. Bosch 17025 is what I finally got from AEM and now I have a spare.

Q: How far away (or close by) from the exhaust manifold should the O2 sensor be put?

Turbo cars should have the sensor mounted further downstream because of the higher exhaust gas temps, 2-3 ft is ideal, before the catalyst.

Q: can this work in the tailpipe

That's a poor place to have the O2 sensor. Usually,they would be installed after 18 or so inches from the exhaust manifold. Your application May differ depending on the location and number or cats, depending if you have a pre cat or not, and other factors

Q: Will this work on a diesel?

I have not tried it. The unit instructions says it will work with gas, diesel, alcohol and more with a selectable setting for each. It has fairly good instructions and I found setup was easy. The wire used to hook it up is quite long and may work for conventional cabs, might be a short for a tip cab.
