Intro to child development
I’m due to take a pedagogy exam that covers early curriculum to grade 12, and knew that my child development knowledge needed refreshing (especially older ages). This book is a great introduction to the developmental stages of elementary and middle school students. Each chronological age has its own chapter and is written in plain English, with bullet points under various headings such as Social and Emotional Development. The author includes useful information for both teachers and parents/carers, including implications for classroom learning. There is a handy resource section at the back of the book which suggests further reading.Overall: a well-priced, informative and easy read.

Quick read primer for childhood development
This is a pretty basic book for understanding learning benchmarks for students. I used it to develop personas for my company, and was able to paint a pretty vivid picture of the diverse experiences students have from grade to grade. I'm curious how many students made up the sample for each grade as there seemed to be a lot of generalizations and the author described a strange yo-yo effect between 6 and 9 that seemed like it could have come from a small sample size. Overall, I trust that the author is smarter on this topic than I am and took the information in this book to heart. It's a great resource for quickly getting a cognitive development 101 crash course and I recommend it for parents and teachers.

The individual development stages are very important to know.
I love this book, because it gives a excellent snapshot of the students that I support development and stages. This helps my team understands the individual child. Great job!

Great for reference!
Very informative read. Looking back on years already passed with my kids, the ages and info provided are quite accurate. It has been useful to see some of what we're experiencing written down as a normal and expected phase, and then how to best help our kids in those moments.

Presented simply and clearly!
This breaks down, in a very helpful manner for teachers and parents, what to expect of each age developmentally. It's well-organized and simply laid out for easy and quick reference. A teacher or parent would love this book! You can also purchase "Yardsticks" brochures to hand out to parents for what to expect at each grade level, referencing the 2-3 years of development encapsulated in one grade.

Must read for any teacher or parent!
I was a teacher and did not miss an August right before school would begin to pick up this book and “refresh” my memory. Any teacher will tell you that understanding child development is one of the most important aspects of teaching! This book gives you great insight and valuable information to help you navigate your work with your students or life with your children.

ESSENTIAL FOR: Parents Teachers Caregivers
If you are a parent, teacher or interact with children in any capacity, you will appreciate this easy to read and understand book. Understanding the specific needs of children during different stages of cognitive, physical and social/emotional development is critical for effective relationships with children. My wife and I are teachers. We have not only bought every edition of this valuable book over the years, we have gifted it to countless other teachers and parents as well.Although we have many, many "teacher books" this is the ONLY book I keep handy for frequent referencing.

Great Reference
I used a pdf version of this book throughout grad school when studying for my M.Ed. I decided to order the book recently as I started an education business and found myself needing a quick reference. Still a great resource. I love the updates to reflect changes in child’s development in response to technology and other factors.
