Not easily driallable
Who don't like the fresh coconut and drilling it is very difficult all the time. and I always compromise by taking the bottles. Purchased this tool to thought it will make it easier but still it was very difficult to make a hole. Not strong enough.

Pass
Does not function as advertised. It would work best with miniature coconuts

Read closely - Green Coconuts Only
The product description is very clear that this tool is for green coconuts only - it states so explicitly and the photographs and online instructions reinforce that. We never get green coconuts in my small town, just coconuts with the green outer shell removed and the tough inner part exposed. I thought I'd try this to see if a bit more elbow grease might make this work on them. It doesn't. Still, if you have green coconuts locally this seems to be well-constructed and thought out with a cap to cover the sharp stuff and a plunger too clean out the hole for a straw (and also the hollow inside of the tool. I can't tell you how well it works on green coconuts, but I do suggest following the notation in the description: :Are you still using a knife to open your mouth? Not only is it impossible to open, it's also dangerous, with residue all over the place." Words to live by.

Worked well on the regular brown coconuts
Occasionally we'll buy a coconut at the store, or more rarely, travel someplace that has coconuts. My method of opening them usually involves a hammer and a screwdriver. It works OK, but it tends to get debris in the coconut water. So I was curious to try this. And then of course my grocery store was out of coconuts for more than a week. But I got one yesterday and we gave it a try tonight. It was just a standard coconut stripped down so there's just the hard shell with a bit of the brown husk on it. The first hole punched through very easily. The second require a bit more turning and force but it went through in less than a minute. The cores stayed in the tool (to be pushed out with a little plastic rod provided for that) and the coconut water was perfectly clean. Yay! I'm glad this came as a two pack, one is going in the kitchen and one will go into our special travel supplies for the next time we go somewhere tropical.

Did not work for young coconuts
I bought some young coconuts and thought this product would work effectively. This drilling action seemed intuitive, but I could not find an entry point despite several attempts. What's even worse, after pulling the tool out, some of the husks got stuck in the drill bit. This was a hassle to get out and significantly discouraging. This product looked solid but I don't see myself using this in the future.

Wasted money
So cheap it could not penetrate any of my fresh coconuts Lightweight metal and cheap plastic handle Useless I had to use my electric drill

Just to clarify what I think is quite obvious: this tool opens a hole on a coconut to insert a straw. It does not open it completely like a machete does. If you're looking to fully open the coconut to eat its pulp, this may help you getting the process started by poking multiple holes, but it won't cut it open for you. I used the tool on a green coconut purchased at a grocery store and it worked quite well. You need some elbow grease, but it's much easier and SAFER than using other non-conventional methods, like a machete or a hammer.

Got these for an upcoming trip to Mexico. We love getting coconuts! Thought these will be a great tool for getting the juice and flesh of the fruit. Pros: - nice handle to be able to cut into the coconut. - well constructed - sharp edges to cut with - has a pouring spout to drain liquid once opened. Overall, I really like this unit and cannot wait to use it while on vacation.
