Cat food
Very good food for my ferret. I know that it's for the cat which I also have. But my ferret eat it . Because ferret food it very unhealthy for them it has a lot weath in them and they can not digest it plus it has some type of oils that are toxic to them . One of my ferret got very sick and I try to take it to the doctor but they would not accept it because they are exotic animals. But this food works great for them. It is very expensive would like that the oz would be more for the price.

Great Standby Food for My Sick Cat
After my cat was diagnosed with lymphoma, I spent many hours researching cat foods and what my cat's new diet should be. One specialist vet had provided the guidance, "red meat, canned, variety, low carb, don't do raw", while the other had said "hypoallergenic" which can mean among other things "novel protein". My cat was used to free feeding on the corn-filled prescription dry food that my regular vet had recommended, which turned out to be a terrible mistake, but was very convenient. When your cat is sick and losing weight, the last thing you want to do is let them go hungry for several hours until you wake up or get home and open a can for them, and canned food dries up and goes bad in 2-3 hours. This Ziwipeak semi-dry food has been my solution, the only dry food I still serve him. Because it is lamb, it counts for us as a "novel protein" -- a red meat he was not exposed to before his diagnosis (I'm not sold on the merits of an exclusively "novel protein" diet, but believe that expanding his diet to include them has been beneficial). It is grain-free and low carb; the nutritional breakdown I have for it is 28% protein, 64% fat, and 8% carbohydrate (moderate protein, high fat, low carb, which is a really good combination for an elderly or sick cat). It has a shelf life of 8 weeks, and is calorie-dense, so even though the bags are small, they are the right size for my situation. My cat does not get wide-eyed excited about this food, and it's rarely his first choice when given choices, but whenever he is hungry and there is nothing else available, he is always willing to eat this, it's good for him, and most importantly it has never given him diarrhea or made him vomit (which is impressive when talking about a cat with gastrointestinal cancer that is on chemotherapy) so for that I give it A+. This is a 100% independent review; I did not receive any free samples for this review, and I do not have any relationships to the makers or marketers.

No packaging, open to the weather and theft.
The product is great, but extremely high priced for the quantity. The biggest issue is shipping. The product arrived without any kind of packaging, no bag or box, just exposed to the weather and open for anyone to take, as there was no mystery to the fact that there was a $75 bag of cat food just sitting there.

GREAT for ferrets!
Our two ferrets have been eating Wysong Epigen since we got them, but I was never really happy with it as the ingredients didn’t seem like they were actually that great for ferrets (a lot better than Marshall’s, of course, but that’s not saying much at all) and our girls just don’t seem to like it. They eat it, but they clearly don’t love it and they end up throwing a lot of it out of their bowl. I want to feed them a much healthier diet, but I’m still learning and don’t understand enough yet to start making a raw diet for them by myself so we got this as an intermediate step. Started mixing it in with the Wysong, and they were actually eating more of their food instead of throwing it overboard. Now, they’re mostly just eating this (along with hearts and such a few times a week) and they’ve never thrown a single piece of it out. They get SO excited when I go to fill up their bowl with it, and they’re eating SO much more than they did before. I wish the price was a lil lower, but you get what you pay for and in my case, I’m getting a lot: peace of mind knowing that their nutrition needs are better taken care of than what I could provide at the moment, the convenience of not having to make it myself, and two happy ferrets. It’s worth it. It’s funny to see our cats and our dogs come running when the bag opens, too — we use this strictly as ferret food, but the other animals seem pretty interested in it as well so I may get some to use as treats or just for sprinkling on top of their food. Note: the mackerel and lamb smells EXACTLY like fish food to me, and it’s pretty strong. I don’t love it, but it’s not for me and i only have to smell it when I’m opening the bag so who cares? 🤷🏼♀️ The fact that it has a strong scent is actually a bit reassuring — it just wouldn’t sit right if a raw/“natural” product was odorless.

Ziwi is now owned by Chinese Equity Firm
I hate having to write this review but I think this will contain essential info every cat owner needs. When suddenly both my Turkish Angora siblings would not touch the newest canned version of Venison, I did some research because they had always LOVED this food. I sent an email to Ziwi customer service: no, the recipe is the same, however they changed the dry recipe in January. But, if they hadn't changed the canned recipe, why would my cats not eat it? They had eaten and loved this brand for over two years since I realized that they are both allergic to chicken and fish. It was my salvation! The message from Ziwi said that some deer have different qualities and that is reflected in the canned food. OK, but, why didn't my cats reject some of the food earlier? Then, I did more research. Ziwi Peak was "acquired" in February 2022 by a Chinese Private Equity Firm, FountainVest, for $1 BILLION. Now, the charm of the original Ziwi Peak was the food was the best ever. It was started in 2002 by a deer hunter in New Zealand. Now, 21 years later, it was sold for an amazing $1 Billion. And, now, my cats wouldn't eat the Venison. Of course, the email from Ziwi said the food would absolutely stay the same, be manufactured in New Zealand. But they hoped they could really make this a popular food worldwide for cats. Obviously, the issue is a quality issue and there is a long, horrible history of Chinese companies replacing ingredients in medicine and pet foods that actually kill people and pets. So, be careful with your pet. I personally, will never buy any Ziwi food again, knowing this history. BTW, the new name is Ziwi Limited.

worth every penny
Good value compared to other very limited ingredient food in its class. We recently swapped our little hydrocephalus cat over to a carnivore diet. We will eventually push him into raw, but it is a slow process. He has had reoccurring bladder stones and was on special "urinary" food. The urinary food was chalked full of grains which is the very thing that upsets urinary PH balance. Go figure on that one. He was not eating a whole lot, but was starting to get fat. Somewhere it dawned on me ... cats are carnivores. I started reading that they don't even have the enzyme to properly digest grains & veggies. So we went carnivore and never looked back. He lost 2 lbs in the first week. He is not as bloated and his urine is much clearer. He seems happier and his eyes brighter. So to me ... value wise ... you can buy tons of special foods for your cat's needs and then also still have to pay for vet visits when they get sick like mine ... or you can buy a quality product, right off the bat, like this with quality ingredients. I actually end up feeding my little guy less and in the long run we are saving money. We feed him all meat wet food morning and night and we feed him THIS product in the middle of the day along with various all meat treats. We feed him whenever he gets overly pesty ... but do not leave food down to "free feed". All our cats love this stuff. Looking forward to trying other flavors. I was already familiar with this brand from trying their wetfood and this "dry" food made me love them even more. Could easily recommend it.

I recommend there’s only as treats, definitely not as food
I recommend there’s only as treats, definitely not as food. First these pieces are basically like a beef jerky, so the idea of it not being served with water is ludicrous because it’s dried and cats should receive all of their water or most of it from their food. So it’s not surprising that one of the other reviewer‘s posted about their cat having urinary problems… That’s because they were dehydrated which is quite common. The quality of the ingredients seems excellent, they loved the flavor, the idea is fine and I’m glad that they didn’t try to create something using glycerin, but one of my cards gobbled them down without chewing probably because they were hard even after soaking them in water for several hours which they then did soften up to our jerky like consistency… The other one did she read a bit and then threw up later on the whole chunks. Again the ingredients are great, and I would rather see this as a freeze dried product with suggestions to add water to it. I would then definitely buy it. With that said, the directions for water or liquid use with freeze dried food I have found or also problematically low. Other brands suggest a tablespoon or so and I find that it requires at least 2 to 3 times that, and to be soaked overnight or at least for several hours. And you need to always break them up. So having these little bits from this brand with these very high ingredients that are much higher in quality than most of the dehydrated foods out there, would be a great thing to see. So just be careful if you are feeding us as food, and I found again that after even overnight soaking in water it’s still only became a firm jerky like consistency and did not hold or retain the water in the sense of becoming like fresh meat. I hope they company reads this and takes it into consideration
