How is durability when covered by river rocks for garden pathway?

Mine hasn’t been down that long but it seems to be okay covered with my river rocks

How long before weeds die back?

I put it down last September and nothing has grown under it. I made cuts in it to plant vegetables. There are no weeds coming through the cuts either.
