Inexpensive wireless linked smoke detectors
Interlinked smoke detectors will be mandatory in Scotland from early next year. Installing wired alarms in my property would be a major exercise (and expensive). These provide a low cost, quick DIY solution. They come with everything you need, including 2 AA Alkaline batteries - I prefer these to the PP9 square batteries - readily available, cheap, and you could get lithium batteries if you wanted longlife ones. The alarms are easy to setup - look for the Sebson Youtube video (in German, but you just wantto see the steps). Basically:- set out the alarms on a table or similar- press and hold the button on one of the alarms (the master) until it has gone through 3 cycles and shows a solid red light- press the button on each of the other alarms briefly - the alarm will pair and flash- if it doesn't flash, just press the button again- repeat for all the other alarms- test by setting off one of the alarms- distribute the alarms around your houseI bought the magnetic version. These were very easy to attach - just peel off the protector on one pad, attachit to the ceiling, peel the corresponding protector off the other pad, attach it to the alarm, reach up with thealarm and the installation is done. This is much better than having to find joists in the ceiling to drill into - you can place the detectors anywhere you like, and it is quicker and less messy. So far the detectors have stayed up (mostof our ceilings are 1980s artex, rather than smooth plaster, so this is pretty good!). I made sure that if they did fall down, they wouldn't fall onto an ignition source (e.g. a cooker/fire), of course. If the adhesion does fail, I will probably just use a dab of gorilla glue.I have bought smoke detectors for my hall and landing, living spaces, and bedrooms, plus a heat detector for my kitchen. I have kept my previous detectors as well. This is probably overkill, but means I'm not dependent on any single detector and reduces risk if any battery fails (the house is quiet, and I can hear any one of them from my bedroom anyway, so the interlinking is probably redundant!).They are quite loud - if you have thin walls, I wouldn't set them up or test them late at night! I haven't tried setting them off for real yet, but I have enough redundancy now that I'm not too worried about. If you have any Amazon Echos and don't mind the privacy implications, Amazon is supposed to be releasing something called Alexa Guard, that actively listens for sounds of smoke detectors and will alert you. I think it is US only at the moment, but once it's in the UK, it could work nicely to give you a remote warning, giving you additional protection (it also works as a burglar alarm). That could be great for e.g. a holiday home, or when you are away from the house.Overall, a good purchase that will help protect my family, and will keep my home legal without major disruption.

Easy to set up
Easy enough to set up, even if the synching means all four alarms sounding for one minute.Fixing by screws can be messy and inefficient and I found trying to get the alarm onto the fixed base plate tricky, so opted for the sticky pads instead. Beware, they shouldn't be used for fixing until the glue has properly set, which takes 24 hoursUPDATE: The sticky pads don't work. The alarms have either fallen off from ceiling/disc position or the alarm/disc. I've even tried supergluing them back on but the other side of the pad comes unstuck . As there's 4 sides of the pads to each unit, I've just reverted to the plugs and screws

Instructions are misleading
Purchased two for garage and hall. Found the instructions misleading so looked at a youtube video and all became clear. You press Test button on one unit for 30 secs until red light stays on then press second unit Test button for a couple of seconds then both units flash quickly. If you have more units press Test on them for a couple of seconds as well. Wait for at least 30 seconds and all units except the first start bleeping proving that they are all connected wirelessly. Tested with smoke and they worked fine. Good product just needs better insructions

Unreliable Interlink - DO NOT BUY!
Updated December 2021 Review.I bought these just over a year ago and had trouble setting up the interlink like many people. I did get the interlink working reliably eventually with the alarms in their final positions and then posted the method I used in this review at that time. I then forgot to test the alarms for several months and when I did - the interlink simply did not work. I tested the batteries (AA L-ION) and they were all in great condition. DO NOT TRUST YOUR LIFE WITH THIS UNRELIABLE INTERLINKED FIRE ALARM SET!I have now purchased a new expensive high-quality replacement set which complies with the new Scottish Fire Regulations (the old ones did not because the batteries were not tamper-proof) as otherwise future insurance claims may be denied here in Scotland. You can find the branded product recommended by the Scottish Government from adverts now appearing (in Scotland on You Tube) and (I assume) from their home page. Unlike the old set, the new high-quality set interlinked first time and also worked perfectly when placed in their final positions (first time too).Of course I will test them every month from now on. I have learned my lessons and am luckily still alive - don't make the same mistakes I did!

Ok
Bought 4 very easy to fit very easy to interconnect. Battery Life variable 2 of the alarms battery needed replaced within 4 months other 2 fine biggest issue was 1 with the replacement batterys already in started to sound and wouldn't stop until batteries were taken out tried to replace batteries outside in fresh air still wouldn't stop sounding , ending up ordering a new one to replace it.However also bought same system for mother in law and she has encountered no issues at all with battery life so maybe I had last batch on a Friday models .

These work perfectly as they should do. Very impressed.
These work perfectly! I was sceptical of buying these after reviews of them apparently not setting off when tested with smoke and the interlink being difficult to use. What a load of rubbish. I've recently converted my cellar and therefore thought interlinked smoke alarms would be useful but didn't fancy the price of hard wired ones. These work great. I used my smoke machine (I'm a dj by trade) to test these and they work as they should. The alarm is loud and the delay between the alarms going off is a couple of seconds. The alarm which has detected the fire emmits 3 loud long tones and the others in the house chirp 2 loud tones out. I'm very impressed. I can't really comment on range but these have spanned 4 floors just fine but they are vertically aligned. Hopefully I never have to rely on these but if I ever should then I know they're there.
