10 Frame Langstroth Beehive Deep Brood Box Painted Not Includes Wooden Frames & Waxed Foundations (Unassembled)

These boxes are made of a soft wood with dovetail corners and come unassembled. Husband drilled the pilot holes a little bit bigger and drilled to countersink the screw heads. He used wood glue when assembling. Paint was a little rough, but he sanded and repainted so that didn't matter. He filled the screwheads with paintable silicone to help prevent rusting. It all went together fairly easily and seems pretty sturdy. Standard frames fit with no problem. Typically, there is not much action on the outside frames, so we weren't expecting to see much. However, this hive has filled this box all the way to the outside frames, so we are able to see brood as well as honey stores. Pretty cool! So glad I picked up this hive box with observation window.

Easy to put together and very solid. The window is a nice touch, but the bees generally don't go to the outside frames unless the box is very full, so I'm not sure how helpful it will be. I'm using it as the bottom box on my hive, and the bees seem to like if fine, and the other boxes I had fit on top nicely.

I am learning about beekeeping and thought I would try this 10 frame deep brood box. But I learned that when it is full of honey it will weigh about 80 lbs! WOW! The box was simple enough to put together. I wasn't wowed by it, nor was I let down. It seems average quality, but like I said, I'm learning. So take this review with a grain of salt.

It was easy to put together, but i pre drilled the holes for the nails first. The only down side is the picture shows a window , and it came with the parts for the windows, but no cut out and no plexiglass glass. Aside from that it worked great.

Easy to assemble painted deep brood box. The cuts in the wood pieces were well done and the pieces fit together easily but very snuggly. I would encourage anyone putting this together to have a rubber mallet at the ready to be able to get the pieces together without splitting the wood. Paint was well applied on the outside without any paint on the inside, that's good. Predrilled holes made screwing things together easy. The observation window is kind of cool, but most of the time bees don't seem to use the very outside frames unless they are crowed and running out of space, so I don't know how much you'll actually see with the window, but you will probably see bees for sure.

I liked that the outside of this box came already painted, and that it had a window already installed.Unfortunately the dovetail corner joints are not precisely cut and some of the predrilled screw holes are slightly off. This results in small visible gaps and step offs in these joints (pictures show three different corners). Several places had pieces of wood split off when tapped gently with a rubber mallet to join the corners. I photographed these findings on the outside because they are easier to see with the paint and wood color contrast, but they are also present on the inside. I know that the bees would fill in and smooth over the chinks on the inside, but they shouldn't have to expend effort to do that. I plan to coat the inside with beeswax before putting it into use.Overall, this box is not made as well as other boxes I've assembled that have similar price points, so I cannot recommend it.

I’m not a professional but I’ve been building my own bee boxes for 55 years. My dad started keeping bees when I was a kid and he could barely afford to buy his equipment from the Sears catalogue. I volunteered to try and make the boxes because I loved wood working and needed a project for woodshop in junior high school. I’ve been making them ever since and I make the frames also.Back to the product at hand. I saw this and thought I’d give it a look since I don’t have to pay for it as an Amazon reviewer. I don’t really have time anyway to make a couple of replacement boxes I’ll need in the near future. I was pleasantly surprised at the good quality of wood and craftsmanship. I’m sure these are mass produced on a factory line but still, they are quality. I won’t need this for a while so I just slipped it together to test for the review. The dovetails are near perfect and they slip together very snugly. I like that the exterior is pre painted. I despise painting. I’m not sure about the window or how the bees will react to it. I’ve never had a window before but it looks to be made well. Sheetrock screws are supplied to assemble it with. I won’t be using those because they will rust. I’ll supply my own stainless-steel screws. To sum it up, this will work very well and at a price point of $48.99 it is worth it when you consider time and materials for making your own.
