Omegon 2'' SC Hybrid Crayford focuser, Dual Speed

Now that I have had this and used on my SCT 8" Celestron, I know I made the right choice. Well worth every penny I spent on this focuser. I have the 2" TPO Crawford focuser which I was not happy with. I can make it thru the night but looses focus, slides under weight etc...... I was skeptical that I would get the same focuser different brand and have same issues. No, not so this focuser holds it position gives crisp focus views and screws right on SCT back and locks well. I use zwo cameras off this focuser and get fantastic pics. You can easily remove the focuser and just add your required flattener extension tubes and camera if you wish to go that way in the dark with no issues. You got to love German engineering by the way, so you expect the best and the focuser delivers! This is not some focuser from China.

Look no further, this is it!!!Positive:- YES, It is heavy to handle, but it also helps to reduce telescope mount vibrations just because of its weight; telescope balancing is recommended.- It screws directly on the back of my celestron sct 11". And has a locking screw, A plus feature. I put al little wax on the threads so it would reduce the chance of cross threading or damaging the threads.- The paint finish is thick, multi coated, strong and durable.- It can be used left handed or right handed, just rotate it 180 degrees, and you are done.- All knobs are a pleasure to handle. There is even a cap that goes over the dual speed knobs to protected them during storage and/or hold them in place when you are taking long exposure pictures. There is a large easy-to-use focusing lock knob (see picture) located on the bottom for right-handed use or the top for left-handed use. Excellent touch!- All the mechanical parts, the eyepiece fittings, edges, and gears are precision machined, to a degree that is way beyond high quality amateur optical equipment. The linear gear strip have the tooth slanted for smooth operation (see picture).- I have used it for about a dozen observation nights, and the accurate and high speed focusing obtained in comparison to the SCT primary focusing knob is... is... is.. i have no other words than EXCELLENT!- I do not see any backlash or focus shift at 90x, 186x, 280x and even at 400x magnification.Only issue I found with Celestron compatibility is that a Celestron 2" 90 cannot be mounted on the back of this focuser without an adaptor ( that I could not find), because that 90 is designed to be mounted first on an SCT (just like this focusing unit), so I will get another brand of 2" 90 that is a slip in type (as in Meade brand).- Packaging was first class.Negatives:- None.In summary, forget the cost, save your money and buy once, it is a dream and a pleasure to use, look no further, get this one. You will thank yourself and all observing guests will do the same!

From my photo you can see that the original focus knob is still functional and accessible.I really like the smooth operation of this OmegonFocused. Also the 2x 24 tpi thread was a perfect fit to the back of my telescope. Very pleased

Very happy with this purchase. Typical German quality of detail and build. Extremely smooth focus. Also looks amazing on the scope although be prepared to need some sort of counter weight to offset the weight.

I had been looking for a god focuser for a while, and at a local Astronomy meet one of the guys had this. I asked if I could try it, and quickly fell in love with it. He said he got it a few years ago, and I would not be able to find it, I guess he doesn't know about Amazon. A few days later, very impressive shipping from Germany, I had my own. The granularity you can achieve with the 10:1 ration is amazing, along with the ability to lock the focus knobs, preventing others from changing things on you.

This one arrived with a showstopper defect - binding focus adjuster. Omegon customer service in Germany is likely the best in the world and replaced it in record time, I am a super happy astronomer. My scope is a NexStar 8se, and the weight of this focuser frankly overpowers the standard mount. I apply a one pound counterweight on top of the OTA to achieve reasonable balance. But if you have the right mount and need a rock-solid Crayford-type focuser to overcome the focus problems inherent in most SCTs, this is your answer.
