A great camera with expensive features for less!
A great security camera. Some of the standout features: super easy setup. Low lag and small size, easy to use and a feature I wasn’t even aware it had, when it detects movement it can track the subject automatically! It also has a private mode that you can automate when you arrive home and disable when you leave using a geofence. This physically positions the camera lens straight down that shows the folks in the room it’s disabled. Leave the house and it’s back up and patrolling. Very cool tech with high res 4k. Excellent value for the money!

High quality cheap 4k camera
Super great and very clear. I love the app as well. It is so easy to setup and gives a great sense of security. The cable is very long too so you can place it almost anywhere. It is super cheap for a 4k camera but not too cheap where everything frustrates you. I do wish it could tilt down a bit further though.

Excellent camera
I'm reviewing two variants of the camera below as Amazon did not allow me to separate the reviews for each product. This review is for the Tapo 2K QHD Camera: I would rate this camera as 5 stars. A wonderfully sharp picture. They do what I need. I have them in two rooms tracking movements, and detecting people. I have a small SD Card and record only movement. That works. It captures a few seconds before the movement starts and some time after the movement ends. I use the automation that stops the recording (privacy mode) when I'm home and starts it when I leave so that the sd cards will last longer, and the cameras aren't following me around when I'm in those rooms and so my housemates are not freaked out by the cameras. The cords are long (6 ft?). They are somewhat quiet when tracking. I plan on connecting them to Home Assistant. I have view the cameras using RSTP. The following review is for the Tapo 4K Camera: I would rate this camera as 4 to 5 stars. Note the limitation I mention below. A wonderfully sharp picture. I have it looking out my living room window. I set it to day mode to turn off the infrared to eliminate glare from the window. The street lights outside are enough to give me a meaningful image at night and the day picture is high quality. I also built a box around it so that only light that comes into the camera comes from outside. It does mostly what I need. I have it tracking movements, and detecting people. I record only movement. That works. It captures a few seconds before the movement starts and some time after the movement ends. The cord is long (6 ft?). It is somewhat quiet when tracking. I plan on connecting it to Home Assistant. I have viewed the camera using RSTP. The facial recognition has it recognizing myself, a housemate, and the landlord as they approach the house. They get about 10 to 15 feet of the camera looking out the window. Another housemate is not tracked. It seems he turns off the path before the camera is able to recognize his face consistently each day. My one disappointment is that on this camera, when I share the camera with others, and they install the Tapo App to make use of the shared camera, they are not able to get notifications from the Tapo App when it detects motion or people. (Other Tapo cameras do allow for notifications when viewing a shared camera on the Tapo app.) They are able to see a live view of the camera and see what has been recorded on the sd card on the camera. I am working on having a text message sent through Home Assistant or from my phone through Tasker to their phone when I get notified that a person is detected by the camera, so that they are notified as well.

Best cameras I've ever had for the money
These things are really great for what you're paying. I've been running 6 of them for about a year now. They pan/tilt and have ONVIF support so you can use them on NVRs that support it. Two of them I have set up to receive ONVIF commands from home assistant so they can pan and tilt on a schedule. While this is all going on, I still get the notifications on my phone and can watch remotely while I'm away. The downsides: They're wifi, so you have to have a strong 2.4ghz signal and that might not work for you. The built in "patrol" function isn't great because it doesn't let you limit the range of motion and timing. I use ONVIF commands to drive mine between presets on a schedule. Works perfectly. The app isn't very good for speaking from them. The speaker and mic are great, but the app just loves to disconnect from the calls.

Excellent 4K Camera with Smooth Setup — Mounting Design Could Be Better
The Tapo 4K Pan/Tilt Camera delivers impressive image clarity, accurate motion tracking, and a seamless setup experience. It connected quickly to Wi-Fi and the Tapo app recognized it right away, letting me monitor live 4K video within minutes. Motion detection is responsive, and night vision produces sharp detail with realistic contrast. It integrates cleanly with Alexa and Google Assistant for voice-controlled viewing. My only complaint is aesthetic and mounting-related. I wish it came in black instead of only white — I used a black Sharpie to blend it with my dark garage ceiling, and you truly can’t tell the difference from below. The mounting bracket design works, but it looks awkward when attached to a ceiling. Tapo should include two separate mounts — one for wall use and one for ceiling installation — to make placement more professional. ✅ Pros • Crisp 4K video quality with smooth pan & tilt • Quick and simple setup via Tapo app • Excellent motion tracking and night vision • Supports both SD and cloud storage • Smart-home integration with Alexa and Google Assistant ⚠️ Cons • Only offered in white (color options would help) • Mounting bracket looks awkward on a ceiling 🟩 Verdict A superb indoor security camera for the price — offering premium 4K clarity and smart features without complicated setup. If Tapo adds a black version and a dual-mount option, it would be near perfect.

Tapo has a good ecosystem of camera and its App. This one also fits well.
It works with no issues and seems to have good-quality images but is not 4K as I expected compared to 4K on a video from an iPhone. Its size is a little larger compared to other indoor cameras from Tapo, but it operates smoothly and quietly.

Excellent indoor security camera! The Tapo C230 has very clear video quality and smooth pan & tilt movement. Night vision is sharp and the app is easy to use. Setup took less than 5 minutes. Very happy with this purchase and highly recommended for home monitoring.
