We bought this book for our 2 year old and she loves it. She already had the ‘We’re going on an egg hunt’ book so I think that instantly helped her recognise the format and style. The artwork is spooky but in a very cute, non-threatening way. Even the bats have smiley faces and the wicked witch looks friendly. At no point was our toddler scared of the characters. Every page is beautifully detailed with plenty of things to spot, and depicts all the classic Halloween tropes which will be easily recognisable by children. The colour beautifully compliments the illustrations, with warm oranges and moody purples. There are fewer flaps on each page than when compared to the ‘egg hunt’ book, with only one ghost to find on each spread . This gives more time to focus on the other elements in the book and actually feels like a positive. The rhythm of the writing is catchy with plenty of names, adjectives and things like animal sounds to help with early literacy. We bought the paperback version which feels very sturdy, almost like the pages are made of thin card rather than paper, and the flaps feel robust, even compared to board book standards. This is definitely a great option for introducing the little ones to Halloween early on, and will grow up with them at least on the first few years or so! I friend of mine bought a copy for her four year old and she also loved it.

My son love any book that goes on a hunt.

Perfect book for Halloween. Simple and fun. Little one loved reading this together during the Halloween period.
