Are these soldered connections??

Sealed heads so I can't tell you for sure but, most likely some kind of soldering underneath the plastic encasement. My beef with these patch cables was a loss in high end tone so I ended up returning them. It was drastic.

what is a "patch" cable is that the same as straight cable?

The purpose of a patch cable is to patch pieces of equipment that are close together such as in a rack case or pedal board. These are short 1/4” TS (tip sleeve) cables. The angle makes them ideal for effects pedals where the jacks are on the side of the pedal. The short length keeps things tidy. Using guitar cables to link several pieces of gear would quickly lead to a tangled mess.
