Nice wooden musical instruments (both big and small) can crack and split if not kept within their climate tolerances. These pouches are for the small packets (size 8) used for small instruments like ukuleles, mandolins, etc. The packets will both absorb or disburse moisture into the air around the instrument to maintain a specific level of humidity. They are manufactured for various levels of humidity so be sure to buy the ones that fit your need. Order the pouch and the packets to use together (don't use the packets without the pouch!) I like them so much, I gave my brother pouches and packets for his ukuleles and guitars as a gift.

So several days ago I bought "49% Two-Way Humidity Control Packs for Music Instruments – 4 Pack – Standard Size" for the kiddo's oboe case. I then notice there are protective pouches available (this size 8) and in the product pics for the pouch there is one in there in an oboe case. I see the size 8 listed, but in the product catalog for Boveda on Amazon for woodwinds, there is no other size listed other than "8". No 9, no 7, no 6. What is 8? There is a "small" starter kit, but is "small" an 8? But there is a size 70! Is that what I need? Why do you have 8, standard, small and 70 sizes? What does 8 mean? What does 70 mean?? Get it together. So this arrives, I take it out of the pack... and it's far too small for the 49% control packs I got. Notice this helpful information in the 49% packs I bought: "HOW TO USE: Always insert Boveda packs into a protective Boveda Fabric Holder before using in an instrument case. Boveda Fabric Holders are available separately & in Boveda Starter Kits." Yeah great- why don't you specify which fabric holder is the right size? Is size 70 "standard"? Your product manager needs to sort this out.

They work well, but they should be included with the humidifier packs, not sold separately. The cost is high but I paid it to avoid scratches on my new instrument.
