Mahogany is really nice. This is a really fine piece and I love it for many reasons; however, there is no drain hole. So, cutlery might not be so nice. Still, I am using it to hold pencils, pens, & other stuff on my desk. Due to the 1/2-inch hole in the middle, it's easy to see what's in there even for the shorter items. It suits as a desktop organizer very well.

Very good looking and sturdy product. Only thing is that the compartments are big so you might have to keep a couple of extra cutlery in your house in order to proper utilise the space. But worth every penny.
