Six months ago the Vet recommended that I put my long-haired Scottish Fold on wet cat food due to kidney concerns. I bought dozens of cans of different top-rated wet cat food and let her try them; the only one she would try was Paw Lickin' Chicken and she has been eating one 10 oz. can a day since. It is worth the cost because now her elegant dark charcoal grey fur is soft, silky, and shiny. I tried adding a few crumbles to the wet food but she turned her nose up! I swear she is the poster cat for Catitude.

This is a truly healthy cat food that contains real shredded chicken. Only thing that is of concern is that it is manufactured out of the US.

Weruva is a company that makes products with ingredients I can stand behind. I am impressed with their ingredients in most of their foods, Paw Lickin' Chicken being one of them. Chicken is the first ingredient listed, which you'll find very obvious once you dish out a scoop into your cat's bowl. The "gravy" was a concern of mine, because many companies make their gravy using a ton of thickening agents, but this one was light, both in color and consistency. It did not have that typical thick consistency of gravy, and looked like what you'd expect water to look like if it's been canned with shreds of chicken for a period of time. Now let's get down to the 2 reasons this food loses 1 star from me. "Product of Thailand". It's stated right there on the can. I theorize that they might be producing in Thailand to bypass the stricter laws that the USA has for manufacturing pet food. I am not greatly informed on this subject so I can't speak too much on it but that's just a theory of mine. I would feel much more comfortable purchasing a product made in the USA. Another major reason this food loses a star from me: My cat will hardly touch it. I've tried mixing it in with his old food, and have been doing so for about 2 months to no avail. He'll eat right around the Paw Lickin' Chicken. It may be because the shredded chicken doesn't feel natural to him - he might prefer chunks of chicken. The only time he will eat it is if he's really hungry, and I don't feel comfortable depriving him of food for more than 8 hours, so we've reached an impasse. Maybe it's far too healthy than what he's used to eating - dry food occasionally, carb-laden dehydrated food once a day (I'm ashamed of this fact, hence me trying to atone my sins by purchasing Weruva). There is 1 trick I have learned recently to entice eating, which worked like a charm. I purchased FortiFlora Feline, a probiotic supplement that contains animal digest, the ingredient that companies coat dry food kibble with that makes it so irresistible (considering it's basically cardboard cereal for your pet, I'd say it works like a charm). This has totally worked its magic as my cat will now DEVOUR this food if I sprinkle just a little FortiFlora on top. (FortiFlora has amazing reviews on Amazon, I highly recommend checking it out.) This is amazing since I really do believe in Weruva's products and believe that Paw Lickin' Chicken is one of the best canned cat foods on the market that you can give your fur baby. I really wanted my cat to love it as much as I did - mission accomplished!

My kitty seems to love the gravy. I add a little of the gravy to her other wet food and now she seems to like it even more.

All four of my cats readily adapted to this and liked it. There is an acceptable ratio of meat to gravy. Everything is very good quality. The chicken used is hormone and antibiotic free and also cage-free according to the description. It is also one of the few non-prescription catfoods that has an appropriate calcium/phosphorous ratio to try to head off crystal formation in cats prone to bladder problems. See www.catinfo.org. (The prescription foods sold by vets may have the correct calcium/phosphorous ratio but they are 1) full of just horrible crap ingredients; and 2) absurdly expensive.) One of the few "problems" I had (which wasn't really a problem) with Weruva was that most of my cats loved the gravy so much that they tended to lick all of the gravy out of the dish and left just the meat there. But I just kept adding a little bit or water to the meat to moisten it again and eventually it would get eaten. The only reason I am giving this a 4 instead of a 5 is because the price swings wildly: I've seen it go from $29 to $35 to $44 and back down to $29 in just a matter of 3-4 days. Over $30 was my breaking point that finally drove me to purchase a meat grinder and start making my own cat food, but when the price drops to $29, I buy Weruva to keep on hand for a back up.
