Was a little smaller than expected but is a great beginner. My son is 17 and was excited to receive it for Christmas.

I wanted to learn a small portable instrument. The sound is great! the directions are easy to understand. It cam pre-tuned. All I had to do was start practicing.

I was pleased with the feel and weight of this instrument. It has nice sound. Needs a bit of tuning, not much. Will have to Google that .

I just received the 17-key kalimba two days ago. I've owned other mbiras in the past, so I'm pretty familiar with it as a musical instrument. This one sounds good and clear, the relatively thin top gives it a nice resonance. The supplied tuning hammer allows it to be tuned fairly accurately. The construction quality seems good, and it looks cool. My problem with it is the tines are, like many of these kalimbas currently on the market, too narrow and spaced too closely together for average adult fingers to play properly. It requires great accuracy, and playing at a good volume is especially hard due to the tendency to strike adjacent tines. It's also harder to avoid clicking the thumbnails as I'm forced to use the very tips of my thumbs rather than the broader fleshy part. It's doable, but very tough. Silicone thumb protectors are supplied to prevent the sore thumbs that result from this particular design — and they help — but I’d rather not have to use them. I've owned kalimbas with wider tines that play much more easily. This company makes a 10-key variation which, though having fewer notes, probably plays more comfortably. I've owned the 10-key kalimba sold by Gecko that played better, as well. This kalimba is probably perfect for children with small fingers.

I have had my eye on this instrument for some time. I look forward to spending time and enjoying many melodies. For now my learning is on hold.

I review the Kalimba in an earlier post but not this one... Because of some clause somewhere, I could only buy 5 at a time from the seller on Amazon. So I had to change vendors to buy another 5 for a total of 10 which I donated to a school.

Bel objet, son sympathique, mais le classement des notes est étrange, certainement pour de bonnes raisins.

Die Kalimba ist superschnell geliefert worden. Alle Teile der Lieferung waren einzeln sehr gut verpackt. Das Gerät muss noch gestimmt werden, aber das ist kein Problem z. B. mit einer entsprechenden App. Der Klang gefällt mir total gut. Das Spielen zu erlernen dauert seine Zeit, macht aber echt Spass.
