Pentair Slide Valve 7.5"" Center

We had a small disaster with our pool plumbing during the last Texas cold snap, even though the pumps were running in our saltwater pool the water froze and then cracked two PVC lines. I went looking for a new backflow valve locally and they were priced from $195 to $300 dollars. I found this one on Amazon at $105 and took a chance. It fit perfectly, came with everything I needed to finish the job and get the pool filters back in service. The instructions were clear and concise and even had instructions on how to set the valve and plumbing up for the two different install options. Couldn't be more pleased with this purchase.

That valve was an direct, upgraded replacement to the original. Much better design for future maintenance. Fairly easy to put in although working with 2" PVC is tough in tight spaces. Works great!

Let me preface this review by saying the Pentair design of this is flawed from inception. You WILL be replacing the piston plunger part of this assembly on a yearly basis, particularly if you live in hot climate.No matter how much silicon lube you put on the o-rings, or how regularly you use the valve the valve WILL get stuck somewhere between 9 and 12 months. I backwash every couple of weeks, and open the filter to clean the grids on a quarterly basis and when I do I replace and lube all the rings and the piston part still gets stuck. Live with it. That being said Leslie's Pool Supply wants 105 bucks for just the plunger (and the wrong one at that - for me at least). This Pentair 26064 part is the entire valve assembly, o-rings, retaining cap, sight tube, connectors to the filter body AND the plunger (which is all I needed) for 70 bucks! When it arrived, on time, well packed...it took be 2 minutes to install on my Pentair FNS Plus filter. Leslies wanted to sell me the wrong piston for more money. If your valve has the screw type retaining ring this is what you want. PENTAIR - redesign this thing, this is the THIRD one I've replaced in 3 years.

This model has the screw on cap on the top to hold the piston in place. The older model had a cap held in place with two metal screws. That older model design is horribly flawed, as the plastic above the screws will eventually break off, and the piston will shoot out at high speed when that happens. I'm glad my face wasn't above it when that happened, as I could have been seriously injured. It came down on my neighbors roof and I never saw it again. THIS model has the screw on top, a much much better design. It was a perfect replacement for the old model I previously had. I deduct one star because when you rotate the top lever so you can move the piston up and down, it is very stiff and you can feel the plastic shaft twisting. I'm afraid that one day the shaft will break, and I'll have to cut this off and replace the entire mess again...but until then, it works perfectly. A little pvc primer and some glue and I had it installed and running, works great!

Fits perfect with my new filter. Quality product for the money. It was an easy instal with my filter. Definitely would recommend.
