We have used a number of these tins of spray paint. The effectiveness, from using within intricate and hard to otherwise get to places of our iron fencing, to that of rusted garden ornaments has been great. Please see my photos. We used both the spray and the std brush type satin black hammerite paint, with great success, more so with the spray. If you take a look at my photos of the railings you will note the spiral sections covered fully in black spray, using these tins. With a brush it would have been so difficult to get into those tight spaces, trying to do so gave a very poor finish, and yet it was so quickly done with this paint. It covers well, more so if the surface you are spraying is darkened, as in this case I used black. You just need to be aware that a special primer is needed if sparing directly onto zinc, aluminium or galvanised metal. Shaking the can and it applies evenly, never "spitting" in any of the cans we have used. We always, when finished, invert the can upside down just to clear the nozzle of any paint that would otherwise dry there. In about 15 mins of the first light coat it is ready to apply another. It is suggested for maximum rust stability 3 or 4 coats are used, that is what we have done. You do need to be aware that adequate ventilation is needed when applying, we have always used this outside. It is noted not to be safe for use on toys. Looking back at some rusted garden ornaments from the previous year, sprayed with this paint, they still look great, no cracking or peeling. The rust there, brushed off and not loose, not returned. It does seem to offer good UV fastness also. Cleaning surfaces of hands, but we do wear black disposable gloves when applying, in the usual paint cleaners is fine. Overall I would find it difficult to fault this paint. It simply does, and does it well, what it states on the tin. Take a look at the photo showing the satin finish of this tin on the left and then a smooth type finish on the right, the right being much more glossy and always very reflective. This satin paint shows far less defects on a surface, looking very nice but not being matte. Very much recommended. I hope this has been helpful.

Hammerite Spray Paint for Metal. Direct to Rust Exterior Black Metal Paint, Satin Finish. Corrosion Resistance Over the years i have used literally dozens of different spray paints and liquid pot paints. The hammerite paints and undercoats have been one of my go to products for many years and this one is as excellent as all the other hammerite types used. Very easy to apply, leaves a superb finish provided you have prepared, degreased and applied to your surface properly. Not trying to tell anyone how to suck an egg here, but make sure the can is at room temperature or summer temperature weather warm, and dont skip shaking the can 'vigourously' for a minimum of three minutes. Once you apply a coat clear the nozzle to keep it free of blockages, do this by tipping the can upside down and applying a quick spray on the cans nozzle, dont point the nozzle at yourself or anything you value when you do this, as a small amount of paint will come out. I also wipe the excess paint free of the nozzle with a piece of kitchen towel after. Same with the paint in the tins, make sure its warm and mix it properly, the finished results you will get are significantly better than if you don't. The Spray nozzle provided on the cans are really accurate with a great spray pattern, that provides a lovely smooth and clean finish, with no random blobs / pinholes or sputter marks, so much so i keep them for using with other spray cans. Hammerite over and undercoat paints are really tough and durable paints, i mainly use them for vehicle underbody and component repair, and they really do last a protect for a very very long time.

I sprayed my garden gate with this, as long as you prepare it well it will last a long time. Very easy to use, drys quite quickly and a good finish. All good

The spray is easy to use and looks great with only a couple of coats. It has started wearing off in areas that see contact with other materials though which is a little disappointing. The area that's worn through is a ringlet that hooks to a carabiner for a shade sail so it's nothing too egregious. If you're coating something that's likely to be static then I expect you'll have no issues and this will provide good quality coverage with a nice finish. Just be careful when applying it that you don't go too heavy otherwise it'll dry on the bottom edge with a few droplets that'll need sanding down. At £10 I'd reccomend this product.
