Q: Will one of these be suitable for a thumb? (for Banjo)

Hi . I have used my steel picks on my nylon string guitar and had no problems. But never played a Banjo, so cannot give a definite answer. Being so inexpensive , I would give them a try.

Q: I am looking for a fingerpick to protect my forefinger nail which gets worn from strumming. Would this help with that? Or can you recommend something?

These are fingers picks, which basically go on your finger upside down. They will not protect your nail. Sounds like you play a similar style to me. Your nails will harden over time or you could try flat picking.

Q: how do you actually wear these? A picture would explain.

I'm not sure how they are intended to be worn. I assume that the loop is over the pad of the finger, with the gap in the finger-band over the back of the finger. That seems logical so that picking strings isn't pulling them off the fingers. I'm finding that they do take some getting used to (having never used finger picks before) but I think I'm getting there. Good luck!
