A MUST-READ for children aged 8-13
Grace Lin's amazing novel starts of in a small Chinese village at the foot of the fruitless mountain where a young, aspiring girl , fueled by her ambition for seeking fortune, sets of for an thrilling adventure. The girl is called Minli she feels sad because her family work so hard but barely can afford a bowl of rice. So one day she steals away into the forest to meet the Old man in the Moon to hopefully change her fortune. The book has good vocabulary and lots of mini stories that help the plot progress towards the satisfying conclusion. At the start the book felt like a direct rip off from the wizard of Oz but as I continued reading my mind changed. Minli goes to many destinations before reaching the Man in the moon so the book i packed with thrilling stories and adventures. I would strongly suggest someone to read the book. I can guarantee you wont be disappointed in the book.
