No, it's not silent. It makes some noise, as you'd expect from an electrical appliance

Is there anyway not to go to 2000w using the function key? What's the default watt when it is on? My inverter just quite marginal in 2000w handling

Yes, depending on make and functions. Had to return one because the temperature functions didn't work. Have a replacement with 6 temp control settings between 300w and 2000w. Hope this helps.
