Brilliant gadget!
I've tried garlic presses in the past and found them fiddly, difficult to clean and (in one case) simply too flimsy to do the job properly. But this one is excellent! Easy to use. Easy to clean. Strong enough to do the job properly, without risk of slipping or of the handles being bent out of shape. Definitely recommended. I would give it more than 5 stars, if I could!

Great, simple garlic crusher
I had a plastic one of these which unfortunately broke. This all metal version is much sturdier and very simple to use and clean - just rock it over the garlic cloves and scrape resulting "chopped" garlic from the rocker. Some little pieces stick in the grid but can usually be loosened with a sharp tap or the point of a knife. It's also easy to clean and any residual pieces rinse out o problem. A great, simple and stylish kitchen gadget.

Brilliant - and more robust than the plastic one.
Very easy to use- no fiddling about trying to get the garlic out, and so easy to clean properly after use. I did own one of the Joseph Joseph ones with the with plastic moulding before this one, and it cracked, so I bought a metal one, and it's great: still going strong a couple of years later - the recent purchase was for a friend.

Pretty good
A friend of mine got one of these for a wedding present and told me to get one. I've had umpteen different styles of garlic crusher/grater/chopper gadgets over the years but never found anything that was any better than just good old hard work with a sharp knife. These are pricey but you can definitely feel the quality when you handle it. It doesn't take a great deal of effort to crush even a large fresh clove of garlic. I'm not sure if you can use it on unpeeled cloves, I haven't, I still peel the garlic and cut the woody end off, but then crush the whole thing with the garlic rocker. It crushes rather than cuts the garlic so you get all the lovely juices too. It is hard to get all the little bits of garlic out of the holes when washing up, a stiff bristle brush is the only thing that really works, even running it under the tap doesn't dislodge all of the trapped garlic. It's a tiny niggle though, and overall I'd say that it was probably the most successful garlic implement I've had to date.

A worthwhile kitchen gadget
I'll start of by saying that I'm not much of a gadget fan. For something to deserve drawer or shelf space in my kitchen it has to deliver on ease of use, quality of the task it performs and ease of cleaning. I'm a keen cook so find myself most days chopping garlic. Whilst not the most onerous task in the world I nevertheless wasn't keen on the daily garlic chopping/crushing/slicing activity. Also, I don't like smelling of garlic. So I took the unusual step of buying a gadget with only one designated use - and I'm really pleased I did. The rocker looks beautiful ( I got the all steel one) and it has turned one of my least favourite tasks into a doddle. I now start with preparing the garlic because it's so easy. Unlike other reviewers who didn't like the item I find that a few drops of olive oil over the cutting surface results in almost no bits of garlic stuck in the holes. I also find that a quick scrape out and a second going over results in an almost paste like result which is useful for recipes requiring a paste. It is also easy to prepare several large garlic cloves simultaneously as you just keep on going without having to open, close, scrape etc as with a garlic press. Cleaning is usually a tap on the chopping board, a quick rinse under the tap and a few seconds with a washing up brush if needed before being popped into the dishwasher to remove the olive oil. My mother in law, who suffers from arthritis in her hands used it when visiting and commented how much easier it was to use than a garlic press - and easier to clean. Unlike a press which requires hand strength, the rocker uses your arm strength and downward pressure which comes from your upper body. You can use the palms of your hands rather than your fingers to operate the device meaning that arthritic hands can operate it with much greater ease. All in all I would recommend this product and has already bought a couple as gifts.

All kitchen utensils should be this well designed
I adore and actively seek out kitchen utensils with the simplest of designs to use and maintain. Fashioned from a single piece of corrosion resistant durable alloy, and without moving parts, it doesn't come much better than Joseph & Joseph's: Rocker Garlic Crusher. Containing Nickel: 18% and Chromium: 8%, the chance of corrosion (rust) is greatly reduced, while also being highly durable (allowing you to avoid the issues those who cheaped out on the polymer version had) as the single moulded piece of stainless steel is likely able to take the full force a normal housewife could ever apply by hand. The design is a canny one as the desirable garlic mince presents itself cradled on the top of the utensil, ready to be scooped out with a spoon. The rocking motion to encourage this is made easy with the universal palm sized flat top area when moving from one garlic clove to another. If cleaning the product by hand (I always use gloves, even during operation) then the stainless steel *will* help prevent your fingers from being left smelling of garlic odour. The only issue comes when removing the pieces of garlic from the punched hole areas, as not all pieces will dislodge with the force of running water alone. Those need a little poke with a fork, or cocktail stick if one is it to hand. One of the best designs J&J have out on the market. note: as of writing, I have had mine for nearly three years now, with regular use, it has not succumb to rusting (and I leave the utensil to air dry).

The rubber (silicone? not sure) on the handle finally disintegrated on my old, beloved Calphalon press. I cook often enough with garlic that a garlic press is worth the investment for me. (Yes, I know I can chop it, but when you're using 5+ cloves in a recipe, that gets annoying.) This one seemed interesting and reasonably priced. I liked the idea of a press without all the hard-to-clean moving parts and crannies. This one has been a pleasant surprise. It's really sturdy and easy to use and clean. I've even been able to use it to press some ginger, something I had tried and failed to do with my old press. My one complaint is that I would really prefer it if the holes were a little smaller, maybe up to a millimeter less in diameter. (I would have made this a 4 1/2 star review, but Amazon only allows whole stars.) Even still, unless something crazy happens, I expect this will be the last garlic press I buy for my entire life. It's great, and I highly recommend it.

I’ve been cooking dinners pretty much daily for 9 months already and all of my recipes require garlic. I was tired of chopping it myself and dealing with the strong odour on my fingers, I had a traditional garlic crasher too but it would waste too much garlic and crashed it too small. This one is perfect for everyday recipes: + 1. It crashes all garlic into small ovals which are pretty much the size of chopped garlic (not too small or large). 2. It is super easy to clean, just like the picture shows. Nothing gets stuck in it. 3. It is from stainless steel and looks like a good quality. I’ve been using it daily for a couple of months and it looks like it’s really durable. - 1. It does require you to apply a medium level of pressure to crash the garlic. So, for instance, if you have some sort of a wrist injury preventing you from applying force, it may be challenging. Also, my 6 yo child couldn’t apply enough pressure to do this. However, this should not be a problem for an average adult.
