Heartbreakingly Real
Someone recomended this book to me a couple of years ago. They had recently found out that I had been self harming for years and had been recently trying to stop. When they asked me why I felt a need to do it, I immediately answered that 'it makes me feel real - I need to feel real'. They told me about this story. After reading it for the first time, I cried. It simultaneously filled me with relief and confusion - I felt empathy towards a toy rabbit, whom I could actually relate to! The illustrations are beautiful and the story is sweet and sad. I now read it to my sixteen month old daughter who points out the rabbit with delight. It is certainly a story that can be read by a variety of people, children and adults. The message it sends out is heart warming to hear. I only wish that I had read it as a child...

Everything I Need to Know about Life I Learned From the Velveteen Rabbit????
I took off one star for the exaggerated reverence in which this book seems to be held in some quarters. It's sweet, and a tearjerker, but when it comes to preaching a sermon based on it, as I recently heard done - well, that's a step too far. I don't think the Skin Horse's insights are the key to life and spirituality and everything. A child should meet with it on the child's own terms, to take or leave- then it's easy to see how it might resonate in the memory. But adults treating it like Scripture, no. Maybe I've just been talking to the wrong people. Actually I bought this one purely because our old one had gone missing, and the bookshelf wasn't complete without it

Lovely story that stands the test of time.
Some beautiful and very poignant quotes in this book, particularly as a more elderly reader sharing with a young child and reflecting on that relationship as they grow up.

Timeless and beautiful
I love when you rediscover a book from your childhood and just reading the title sparks a memory so strong you can actually remember the smells and sounds of the time. I adore this book. It is the epiphany of goodness and nature. As a child I didn't realise the message deep inside, but I guess that's the beauty of it. I didn't have to understand it was a message for it to be beautiful and make sense. As an adult, I can't wait to share this book with my four-year. This story is timeless. I hope some day my daughter grows up to read this book to her child.

Magical !
This is a charming little story about a toy rabbit and its relationship with the little boy who owns it. Subtly woven into the narrative are deeper themes of love and loss, and the mysterious world that lies on the border of perception. It is a story suitable for children and adults and can be enjoyed by all, to be read over and over, with many layers of meaning. A gem of a book.

A book children would still enjoy.
I glanced at other reviews; are we reviewing a story or how it is presented? I bought the kindle book for 49 pence after a Facebook friend raved about it; I had never heard of this lovely story. I would like to see the real book, illustrations loose their lustre on Kindle, children need real books. I would enjoy reading a good edition to the youngest members of the family, children can understand that life was different in the past for children, but toys and imagination remain part of childhood.

This book came to my attention, because it was read in my beloved series "Cold Case" by the main character detective Lilly Rush. The book itself is a wonderful story about hope, friendship and love, between a rabbit and his owner, a young boy. Today the story is more topical than ever, it is a story that should be read to children again and again, because it actually conveys basic values.x finger. In today's world, in which children are inundated with the latest electronic toys, which do not stimulate their imagination, a child is told here that it is completely ok to have a cuddly toy, a confidante, or a friend. In every time, one should remember, that children also have problems and fears and that the confidant cuddly toy companion can be a comforting source. I will give this book to my little neighbour as a christmas present. she has a cuddly toy, an owl. I am sure her parents will read it to her with enthusiasm.

I've always loved this story, but this specific edition is breathtaking. The images are so full of emotion that they tell the story all on their own. There is a certain warmth and sadness in the art that perfectly captures what it feels like to be loved and then forgotten. I found myself just staring at the pages, feeling a genuine ache in my heart. The way the Rabbit is drawn makes his journey feel so personal and real. It's a beautiful, soul-stirring book that feels more like a work of art than just a story. If you're sensitive to visual storytelling, this will definitely get to you.

I heard that this book was terrific so I was sad that I hadn't read it to my daughter when she was young, but I bought it anyways as something for future grandchildren (fingers crossed). When I received this book I didn't realize how beautiful it would be and thought it would make a terrific gift for a colleague of mine. I'm actually thinking of gifting this one and getting a cheaper one for myself.
