How good are these tests? We are now one of the largest suppliers of drug tests to customers throughout the UK and our tests are used in treatment centres and by medical professionals. They are made specifically for us and comply with CE (European Community) and every pack has the approval details printed on them. As for the expiry dates, they will always be at least 1 year away and more often nearly 2 years (which is the legal maximum). About the test The cocaine rapid test strip (urine) detects cocaine through visual interpretation of colour development on the strip. Drug conjugates are immobilized on the test region of the membrane. During testing, the specimen reacts with antibodies conjugated to coloured particles and pre-coated on the sample pad. The mixture then migrates through the membrane by capillary action and interacts with regents on the membrane. If there are insufficient drug molecules in the specimen, the antibody -coloured particle conjugate will bind to the drug conjugates, forming a coloured band a the test region of the membrane. Therefore a coloured band appears in the test region when the urine is negative for the drug. If drug molecules are present in the urine above the cut-off concentration of the test, they compete with immobilise drug conjugate on the test region for limited antibody binding sites. This will prevent attachment of the antibody coloured particle conjugate to the test region. Each test consists of a reagent strip. The amount of each antigen and or antibody coated on the strip is less than 0.001 mg for antigen conjugates and goat anti-rabbit IgG antibody and less than 0.99915 mg for antibody components. Therefore, the absence of a coloured band at the test region indicates a positive result.
