Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes

I saw the author and illustrator reading this book on YouTube when my son was a tiny baby loved watching it. Although it's aimed at slightly older children I bought this for my toddler around his first birthday and, a year and a half later, he is still fairly obsessed with this book. We regularly read it several times a day. I can now recite the story without the book. The pictures are great, the story is lovely and it's a good way to reinforce knowledge of some colours. I also love the moral of the story encouraging children to take slight bumps in the road in their stride. I recently read this book at a parent and toddler group to all the children. They loved it so much I had to bring it back again. And again. By the third rendition of the song all of the adults were joining in. Some of the wee ones sing "I love my red shoes" to me whenever they see me now, and several families from the group have bought the book. One wee lass gleefully goes everywhere looking for people with red shoes! I would happily recommend it to anyone who either has or works with younger children.

Great book, my granddaughter absolutely loves it and reads it most days.

My children (5 and 2) absolutely love this book and they sing the song and shout the colour and engage with the story. Illustrations are beautiful too.

At 1st sight i was like what kind of scary strange looking cat is this? 😂 but i decided to at least try it to see my kids reaction b4 deciding whether to return it. I was pleasantly surprised that we loved it. I especially like the part where i had to create a song and i got to use my much neglected singing ability! 😁 my kids 2 and 3yrs sing along and smile when we read it so its a WIN for me. Don't judge a book by its cover is absolutely right. Very positive message in this book about having keeping your joy, peace and a good attitude no matter what. At 38yrs old going thru alot, it really cheered me up, my kind of book! Highly recommend.

I work in a preschool and I read this book to the children twice in a session and they loved it. There are lots of ways to get the children to join in and singing along with the story (see the youtube videos for the tune). Today some of the children asked where the 'cat book' was and unfortunatly. I had left it at home as I plan to make some activities to go along with the story. So I offered to read the Gruffalo also a firm favourite. But the children showed no interest. So we all managed to remember the words from 'I love my white shoes' and the different parts of the story without the book and the children were soon joining in retelling the story and singing his song. We looked at the colour of our shoes and we changed the words to include different colours and patterns. I can't wait to read the groovy buttons with the children and it looks like the poor old Gruffalo has been given the elbow.

This is a fabulous simple story with a great moral. Especially if you sing along too.

Vraiment parfait pour aborder l'anglais dans une classe de maternelle (je l'utilise en Grande Section). Le personnage est drôle, attachant, vraiment intéressant, la musique très entrainante, les enfants accrochent vraiment bien. Et l'histoire est très très bien conçue : elle évolue dans l'interaction entre le narrateur et les auditeurs qui participent à un jeu de question réponses (là c'est autour des couleurs). C'est très motivant pour les enfants. A recommander chaudement aux enseignants en maternelle qui voudraient "oser" l'anglais: vous allez faire mouche avec ce dispositif!

Amei demais esse personagem, a história, o livro, as ilustrações. Perfeito! Só queria que não fosse tão caro.
