I needed some new braces to replace the old ones, which were homemade and not doing well. My red oak is about 4 years old and probably 10 feet tall. Still spindly. I looked at many stake kits and chose this one because of the bands that wrapped around the trunk, hoping they wouldn't slide or roll like other kits I saw. The stakes didn't look too deep and thought maybe I would need longer ones. ~ Easy to set up. Then I got the clean side of Hurricane Burle, lots of high winds. My fence blew over. Part of my shed's roof was blown off. And my skinny red oak? Actually, it survived well, it did not uproot although it was leaning but not leaning bad. I was really surprised! The stakes needed to be tightened but they held up well. In fact, I thought they should have been longer when I received them but the only reason they seemed to have become loose was because the ground was so saturated. I straightened up my oak (which I call 'Wild Thing' because it's growing in every crazy direction) and it leaned again by the next day.... like I said, the ground was saturated and we still had high winds in the area. So I straightened again.... it's been 3 weeks since the hurricane. We've had lots of rain, but Wild Think is still standing straight and tall. I think she'll make it fine. The braces and stakes worked perfectly!

I have planted a number of 2” to 3” caliper trees that required staking until they root in. The straps on these tie downs are tough yet flexible and wide enough that they do not injure or cut into the bark. The cord and steel stakes are of good quality and keep the trees in place, even in windy conditions. Having three tie downs takes care of just about all wind conditions. They are easy to install and I like that they are reusable - well worth the money.

I've had these now on my tree for a little over a month. Only downside is they aren't easy to tighten with a single person. But for the price I paid the quality is great, length and size is more than enough, blends easy enough into the background and does what it's supposed to.
