Can't put it down

One of the best knives I've ever owned. It's 1095, supposedly tops give them a clear cerakote, but I still coat it with a mineral oil and bees wax mix that I like for carbon steel. Came sharp, carbon steel is easy to maintain the edge, so far the edge is holding really well even carving wood and cutting up cardboard and plastic at work. Feels great in the hand with a lot of control of the blade. Handle is fantastic but I'm biased, micarta is my favorite handle material, it holds nice when your hands are wet. It could be more aggressive but it still sticks to your hands when wet. I'd buy another as back up if it wasn't so expensive.

My favorite all around knife for hunting, fishing camping and bushcraft!

I’ve owned this knife for a year. First off, I read the negative reviews on this knife because I wondered why anyone wouldn’t give it 5… heck 10 stars. It’s a puukko but I guess if you’re a purist and want a true Scandinavian grind, this one does have a secondary bevel. For me that’s a plus. Easy field sharpening instead of hours on a big scandi edge. Also, if you’re a carver, this one carves great but unlike a true puukko grind it’s not a razor. Again, I find that a plus because the edge isn’t as fragile. I’ve chipped and bent edges on a lot of Scandinavian knives doing harder wood work. I can also see if you have big hands this knife would feel small. But that’s true of any smaller blade. That said, this knife is utterly amazing. It’s an all around excellent knife. It’s small enough to not feel like a burden. Multi functional in hunting, fishing and camping. I have used it to clean fish, clean and process deer, carve spoons, tent pegs, process tinder, and prep my food. I own dozens of high end knives and this is the one I reach for over and over. If your trying to baton a bunch of big firewood this may not be your knife. But it will split, carve, slice, and more all while holding a super sharp edge. Easily stropped back to shaving sharp or a quick 10 licks on a pocket stone. Tops knives has the best heat treat for 1095 of any company, period. I love this knife.

Most Impressed

I absolutely love this knife. While I reshaped the micro-bevel into my own convex edge, I will say that the factory edge wasn’t terrible. The steel itself has been heat treated very well! Striking the same ferro rod with a schrade heat treated 1095 steel vs the Tops 1095 steel is noticeably different. The edge retention is phenomenal due to the heat treating on this blade. Granted 1095 is mid level steel, but I will say Tops does a great job of optimizing it for durability. Remember to coat it or it will rust. The length of the blade is a perfect length for bushcrafting and the thickness of the blade is good enough for camping tasks, such as batoning wood. It works as a fantastic companion for your axe. The spine came very sharp. You won’t need to worry about the ability to strike a ferro rod with this knife. I anticipate that your knife will be the same, as the QC is excellent with this company. The handle is simply excellent. It is a full tang knife with micarta scales. The grip is going to be great no matter how wet or dry your palms are. I haven’t utilized the bowdrill divot yet, but it’s nice to have just in case I decide to put my friction fire skills to practice. The shape of the handle is perfect and I haven’t experienced hotspots on my palm in the time that I’ve had this. My only gripe is that I wish it had a lanyard hole as the sheath is VERY well friction fitted to the handle, and can be difficult to remove from the sheath.Speaking of which, the rather sheath is very well made. I recommend polishing your leather sheath as it came to me as a bit dry. But it, non-the-less, Serves its’ purpose well.In conclusion, I do truly like this knife. Admittedly, there are aspects of this knife that don’t truly make it a traditional puukko (such as it being full tang rather than a rat tail/partial tang, or microbevels being placed on a scandi grind) but in my opinion, tops has optimized the puukko for modern preferences in a blade.

Perfect Puukko

This is my third Tops knife. I marvel at the quality Tops puts into their knives. This Puukko is no different. Tough and versatile, sharp-sharp, solid. Beautiful sheath, well made and double stitched. I was watching Dutch Bushcraft Knives on YouTube when they featured this knife. Excellent video that shows how well this Puukko is made. They did things to the Tops that they wouldn't do to their own expensive Puukkos. I always wanted a Puukko and this is a fine example for my collection. Very recommended. Good price for a high quality knife.

Amazing knife! The blade is basic 1095 high carbon steel, which makes it easy to sharpen and maintain an edge in the field. The handle is well made brown canvas micarta, which has a very solid feel to it. The knife came razor sharp out of the box with a very well made brown leather sheath. I personally like a Kydex sheath, so I purchased a scout style carry kydex sheath from 7rattlesbushcraft.com, who has the knife in stock and doesn’t require you to mail yours in. I’d highly recommend purchasing this sheath, the guy who makes them is great to deal with and a very pleasant and respectful guy. Besides the sheath (which is a personal preference) the knife is simply amazing and well made.As an active military member I will be taking this knife with me on my next deployment. I’d give the knife 10 stars if given the opportunity! From bushcraft tasks to EDC carry, this knife will meet all your expectations for a small well built belt knife. I actually bought 2 just to have a back up, and so I don’t feel bad using the first one and putting it through everything I can throw at it.The knife goes for $150-$180 on the manufacturers website depending on the options you choice, so for around $100 on Amazon your really getting a bargain for such a quality product, you simply can’t go wrong buying this knife.
