Purchased the DCC controller to be able to test N Scale locomotives being converted from DC to DCC. The Digitrax Zephyr Express is 100% fir for purpose. Easy to use and setup. Delivery from the supplier was earlier than estimated and the product was packaged well. Would recommend to anyone getting into the hobby.

In a moment of madness I decided to build a small (3x6) n scale layout using some of my son’s discarded locomotives and rolling stock. I modeled HO many years ago, and refreshed my memory with videos. Naturally, dcc controllers were offered as the “modern” approach to operating model trains. After comparing I settled on this one as a powerful beginner’s choice. So far, I have not been disappointed. There is a rigorous learning curve, and I do have experience with parameter programming on POS terminals. Just stick with it, the results are worth it. I can only speak as to the Digitrax because I haven’t used anything else. So far, so good!

I am building a small HO railroad layout which will be my first that uses DCC. I have tried mine out on a limited basis and found that it works well and is quite straight forward to learn to use.

I bought this item on the promise of greater ease of use for DCC controlled model trains. It met that promise mostly. However, I needed to program some new accessory decoders for Kato turnouts using Configuration Variables (CV's) and it appears to lack this feature. While it has complete CV programming for mobile decoders, Digitrax referred me to NCE command stations for CV programming of accessory (stationary is another name) decoders so all is well since I have NCE stuff and knew that. If you don't need CV programming specifically for an accessory decoder, the Zephyr Express ZEPE is a great command station!
