It's laid out in an easy to understand way and, unlike so many gardening books, there's real data, charts and ideas so you can replicate the Fortier's own success. Extremely happy with this purchase and I'd highly recommend it for anyone who's considering just growing in the back garden or attempting to grow their own to sell at Farmers Markets etc. Review: but the book is excellent to both learners like me and I am sure ... - I have not finish reading the whole book as I read occasionally, but the book is excellent to both learners like me and I am sure people with knowledge of Agriculture/horticulture. The horticulture advice is excellent including the mechanical tools enlisted can be very good for mini farmer. The two wheel tractor and accessories are really very good and I think I will recommend them to friends in government position in African countries to get them to help the peasant farmers. The real tables from the field makes life easy for learners and beginners of farming. From illustrations and examples he(writer) made farming a something to look forward to. He made back breaking cultivation into likable job.

Compulsory reading for 21st century agriculture
I have never once reviewed an Amazon purchase, but I feel compelled to review this book. Fortier's techniques: intensive, low capital, low petroleum inputs and organic methods in a small space -- these are the future of agriculture. It is about more, better, with less. He may not have invented them all, but he has brought them together and has proven they can work if you have the willpower to get off the couch and make it happen.

The ultimate handbook for aspiring market gardeners.
JM Fortier is arguably one of the best organic market gardeners in the world and this book clearly sets out how he has achieved such remarkable success on his not very large piece of land. If you are thinking of becoming a market gardener this is a must read. In the end you may decide that you don't have what it takes in which case you've saved yourself a lot of heartache finding out the hard way and you still have the knowledge to grow good, healthy food for your family.

Mixed feelings
I'm a novice gardener with aspirations of running a market garden, so I was particularly interested in reading this book. I've only made it about 1/4 of the way through in 8 months, though. The author clearly knows their subject and is passionate about it, but their message comes across in a rather dense and, at times, preachy manner. I want to like this, and I want to learn what I can from the author, so I'll go back and give it another go. But I can't help but feel that it could have been made a little more accessible.

JM is the real deal, he has lived and breathed farming for decades. He’s an incredible educator. If you’re starting a small farm, have interest in direct to consumer sales like csa - this is an absolute must read.

Ever since I had an interest in organic farming and was searching for sustainable methods to maximize revenue while also caring for the environment, Jean-Martin Fortier's book was one that really interested me. After watching several of the YouTube videos which outline his method of approach in planning, operations and harvesting, I grew all the more curious and just needed to get my hands on his book. Bought it just about a week ago and have now gone through it from cover to cover and feel glad that I did purchase it. JM has written the book with good detail, in such a manner so as to make even a new entrant into farming / market gardening confident of success. Although it is obvious that majority of the practices, crops and market around which his operations are based have a world of difference to the same in India, it is his methodology and approach to the operations that are the real lessons to be learnt. The efficiency with which he runs his operations are described right down to the very details and this gives the reader confidence that success can truly be achieved even on a small scale. Would highly recommend this book to all newcomers (irrespective of location) to this field of work, in order to learn the approach required to make market gardening a success. Glad I bought it and am pretty sure it will be a good reference for me as I start on my journey in Market Gardening.
