An excellent book that I liked because it gave me some understanding of Japanese planes. After reading the book, I bought a small Japanese wooden plane and with only a bit of fiddling to set the blade I was able to get excellent results that matched my metal plane of similar size that also had a sharp blade. Best available coverage of Japanese planes.
This book provides the best explanation of Japanese planes I have seen. This includes a variety of specialty planes in addition to more typical bench planes. These are seldom covered and certainly not in the detail Scott Wynn provides. His coverage of how to construct Japanese planes is excellent and adds to the understanding of planes in general.

This book covers all basis of the flexibility of Japanese planes, explains how to setup, maintain a plane. As someone new to Japanese planes, this book was very helpful.
