Vitrex 103402NDE Torque Master Power Tile Cutter Diamond Wet Tile Saw 240v

Harassed and harangued, I wanted it really, into putting in a tile splashback at home I decided I would have a go myself so invested in a tile cutter to aid cutting some plain white Metro Tiles. Vitrex seems to be the go to brand for all tiling accessories, it's the prominent brand at the local DIY giants plus there aren't many options for the non pro have a go bodge jobber like myself, so I picked one of these up. The Good - Its fairly easy to set up, clunk click a couple of parts together, a screw for the guard, install the blade inside the box, all less than ten minutes to get up and running. The measure handles move fairly easily once on place enabling you to line up your tile. It's a waterproofed push button start and stop, the blade quickly whirs its way to full speed and away you go. As said I used this for metro tiles which are quite small and only 6mm thick. I'm not sure how larger tiles would go but for what I needed this little machine was superb. How many hours saved versus a manual cutter I am not sure of but it's a lot, an awful lot. The could be better - One grumble I had when using was that the numbers for lining up the cutting guide were extremely hard to see, there are a black indent on black plastic. One of my photos shows the numbers once I had cut a few tiles, the wet clay has gotten into the idents making it much easier to read. If there was something to say this could be improved it would be improve visibility on the guide numbers Vitrex!! Some look outs if you do pick one up I found handy - Masking tape is your mate, tape the cut line to reduce the risk of lopping off the edges and nibbling the ends of tiles. Wear Googles and have a second pair you can swap out with out having to stop a cut to clean the muck off your Googles. Ear defenders are handy, it's noisy, especially if you are crouched over it with one eye closed because of wet tile clay. Have some towels, some sheets, a wet suit, snorkel.. It makes a mess, a lot of mess even with the guard down. You can do some tricky cuts by removing the guard but I would watch some YouTube instruction videos first! Let the blade do the work, you don't have to force it. Cleaning this unit is a pain, there's no getting away from it, i would say clean it at the end of each day you use it, don't leave it overnight, it's just going to make it harder. Set 30 minutes aside to clean it properly and it will last a lot longer. Dry the blade, it rusts very quickly. Probably invest in another blade depending on how many cuts you are planning to do. Overall this is a really good piece of kit that's extremely good value for money, if I only got one job out of it I'd have been happy but am sure it has a couple more reasonable sized jobs in it too. It's also a surprising amount of fun! Five Stars.

This is the first tile saw I have ever used. I read a lot of reviews and decided on this one, although I was concerned over the quality of the item being as there are more expensive saws out there. I needn’t have worried! The saw is brilliant and handles tiles with ease. The motor is very loud so I would recommend ear protection but the noise comes from the more efficient type of motor that has been used. The saw cuts mitres at 45 and 22.5 degrees and has a scale in cm and inches to easily cut to the correct size. There is an extension for when larger tiles are being cut and a cutting guide to ensure straight cuts. The blade is ridiculously easy to change and the whole saw is very quickly and easily set up and adjusted. As a complete tiling novice I can honestly say that this tile saw is worth its weight in gold. I went from dreading tiling my bathroom to enjoying it and even looking forward to doing the same in the kitchen!

This review is after I've finished tiling my bathroom, which took 2 days (had to go back for more tiles!). This cutter is great value for money but it almost destroyed itself as the nut loosened itself off and dropped slightly cutting the plastic base but not all the way through. Key points: 1. VERY IMPORTANT: You need to make sure that you tighten the nut (that holds the blade to the shaft) very tight! I actually got a spring washer and put this under the nut. I did tighten it initially but the vibration of cutting the tiles backed the nut off, the blade dropped, started cutting into the plastic base and started shaking. Turned off the power and luckily no serious damage. 2. The water should be filled so the blade just touches the water, about 1mm and no more. If it is more, you'll get soaked even using the guard. 3. Bear in mind that ceramic tiles create a lot of clay dust when being cut and this will settle in the water bath and go hard. You'll probably have to scrape this out after the job is finished. Makes quite a lot of mess. 4. I would use a work bench to hold the cutter as on a normal table it moves a lot. I put a protective sheet under the workbench to protect the carpet (or whatever your floor is made of in the room). I then clamped the cutter using the workbench and had no problems. If it moves, your cut wont be straight. 5. I suggest using a dust mask. Even with a window open, as the tiles are cut they produce a lot of dust. Do these things and the job will go well. One more point, if you are cutting tiles of 300mm x 300mm or bigger, you'll need the table extension pieces. 4 stars not 5 as I've only don't one job with it. Conclusion: Great value for money and does the job :)

My front door step had sunk and shattered. I was thinking of having this retiled professionally but thought I'd give it a go. It has to be said that I am no DIY man and was terrified of getting down to it. One of my big fears apart from re-levelling the shattered concrete of the step was how to cut the tiles. This little unit is really easy to use. It's precise and easy to operate even for a weedy chap like me. I even managed to cut an "L" shaped piece - something that I could never have contemplated before I used this. One or two points. The water can go everywhere so use a RCD device on your plug even if your home already has these. The guide is the weakest point as it tends to flap about against a weight tile - even my quarry tiles can cause it to bend a bit when you are clinging on. I therefore shaped a piece of wood and set this in the "U" shape of the guide. This simply sits there but provides a lot more stiffness and keeps everything straight and tight even when using weighty tiles. The quarry tiles left a lot of clay like sludge in the reservoir of the unit. Clean it as soon as you are finished and I found flushing it out with a watering can several times made the job easier. I think the base of the water reservoir should be detachable a bit like an upside down plastic sealable food container. Removing the 'lid' in this way after use would make for a much easier clean up and would allow you to get rid of the sludge quickly. It's vital that the blade goes in the right way round. The instructions can be a bit confusing so simply follow the arrow on top of the clear blade shield and apply the blade to the spindle accordingly. Ok, professional job it is not but it looks a lot better than when I started and the cuts are neat straight and true which is half the battle and certainly not bad for a first attempt. Highly recommended.

Works well and makes cutting easy.

I am re-tiling my kitchen using tiles 500mm long. To do the window ledge I am having to cut the tiles length ways and my existing manual cutter will only deal with 400mm tiles. I bought this having read the reviews, compared prices and even looked at hiring one. This worked out the best value. It came well packaged and was a little fiddly to but the bits together. It does create a bit of a noise when in use, but nothing excessive. It does a great job and will trim tiles by as little as just a few millimeters wide (ideal for trimming large tiles or cutting narrow pieces for use). My only issue is the guide which assists in making the straight cuts. There are measurements at each end of the base making it easy to line the guide and the tiles up, HOWEVER the guide only secures to the base at one end, meaning that the other end moves when cutting. The cutter comes with two screws to secure the guide yet it only has the provision to secure one end. Nothing appears to be missing from box. It can obviously be resolved but means the cutting process is slowed to ensure accuracy. I would have given 5 stars had it not been for this (major) flaw

Good item but never actually used as hubby hurt his back and we paid a professional tiler to do. the job. Sold it privately for small loss as it was too late to return

For the price this is an amazing piece of kit, but it has serious limitations. It is really quick to set up, very light, requires just a little water and is very small. To cut notches out of tiles is really easy and generally cutting a tile to size is quick and easy but..... It, unfortunately, does not replace a bigger tile cutter with the cutting blade on a slide. This makes cutting at very small angles very difficult. It has an annoying habit of breaking the tile at the last moment. Depending which way the tile breaks determines whether the tile can still be used! The guide is TOO flexible and a straight cut occasionally becomes a mess with the guide flexing. It is SO light cutting large heavy tiles can cause the tile cutter to move rather than the tile!! But for the price it is excellent. Just a few changes and it would be really good.
