Paul Rubens Set of 6 white oil pastels, specially for mixing with other color oil pastels, suitable for painting clouds and waves, etc.

Pros: Very soft, creamy/buttery, blend easily, good coverage and can be layered. The pigments are rich, vibrant and can be used to give a beautiful oil-painting like smoothness when rubbed on the paper. The pastels also can then be used to draw over the smoother under-layers to give a texture to the painting. The white pastel in particular is the best I have seen; it is highly pigmented and can be seen even over some of the darkest colors. This box has a good selection of colors for most coloring needs - landscape, seascape and portraits. I do seem to run out of the greens, yellows and especially the black. They have a white-only pastel-box. I wish they had open-stock where I could buy a box-set but fill it with colors of my choice. If you want lighter colors, try their macaron-color set; I have not bought that one yet but my understanding is that that set does not have your typical run-of-the-mill colors for "everyday needs". Cons: Some colors are inconsistent in their "stickiness"; one of my red oil-pastel was so sticky that it would pick up pastel already on the paper and I could not color with it - it was almost completely useless - I keep it for impasto-style coloring effects only now (digging out pastel with a pastel-knife and sticking a blob on the paper for a 'raised' effect).

I love this item. Pastels work amazing, a lot better than most other soft pastels. Awesome quality!

I'm absolutely in love with the pastels by Paul Ruben. They're smooth and a nice size to hold, spreading easily on canvas with a beautiful depth of colour.

The colors are great, and have a decent pacity, they are super super soft, softer than lipstick, don't layer well due to softness
