Good iron protoboard construction.
I bought this for its small, slender size and ability to solder plated-through holes on PC boards. I found it ideal for tight connections. I found 400 to be the perfect temp for the solder I use. The handle does not get warm. I experienced no melting of the body, etc. I did not stand it in my spring holder that I use with my bigger Weller pencil tool. I simply laid it down horizontally so heat doesn't ride up from the tip into the handle. Some reviewers experienced some heat issues and it may only be because of the way they put it down. Handled carefully this tool should serve anyone quite well. I used it for one hour the first time and saw no problems. I am very satisfied with it and the seller and will order another for my portable carry pouch.

Did the job
I bought this soldering iron to fix the logic board on my garage door opener because the remotes only worked up close (yes I already checked the batteries and ruled out RF interference). Set it to 300 degrees Celsius, let it heat up for a few mins, and redistributed the solder on the connections that held the 5pin connector strip. Now the remotes work from far away! This isn't the most rugged tool but it saved me $80 on a new logic board or way more on a technician visit. This is the first time I've soldered anything since wood shop back in high school and it was super intuitive and easy. Couldn't be happier with this new tool.

Not bod
Not bad at all! I think that it probably won't win you the blue ribbon at the Spring Soldering Jubilee. And its looks might not turn too many heads when you're carrying it around town. But I think any soldering iron under $15 with variable temperature control, multiple tips, and some solder included is beautiful in it's own right. It heated up quickly, flowed smoothly, and got the job done. Only thing I'd mention is to stay away from the very fine point-tip. I think theres just not enough heat in the tip to distribute around the solder. Use one of the more blunt tips, it'll heat up and transfer a little better.

Excellent portable iron for my 5th Wheel RV use
If you solder much at all, even if you are not a trained soldering professional. This is a great pencil type iron. I have been trained as a missile mechanic soldering expert. I say that only to qualify my comments here. This is not a static free iron. But it is an iron that holds temperature fairly well and adjustable heat range allows for not melting back the wire insulation if set properly for the gauge wire or sub-straight you are soldering. It isn't as great as my high end shop iron. But for a portable iron, this is really a good iron.

It’s not for circuit board repair.
I tried to use this soldering iron to replace one of those SMT capacitors. It had a small pencil tip that fit perfectly for my application. The soldering iron wouldn’t get hot enough to properly melt the solder. It would just ball up. I used a different soldering iron with the tips from this kit and was able to do my repair job. My old Radio Shack soldering iron handled SMT caps just fine. There were burnt pieces falling out of this soldering iron when I transferred the tip to another iron. That’s not a good sign. That being said, this might work to solder wires. There might be special lower temperature applications where this work. It’s not for circuit board repair though.

It work but not a steady heat
No matter what setting you use the temperature seems to go on and off by itself.

Very easy to use, was able to help me with soldering holes in a plastic tub with no issue. The iron heats up within 5 minutes and only takes a few seconds to melt through plastic on the lowest setting. Great for beginners as it is not difficult to learn, just keep in mind it is still hot and you want to be careful where you place it abd how you grasp it. 10/10

Works well - wide range of adjustable tip temperatures and comes with a selection of tips. Would be nice if the handle was a little bigger for my big fat hands.
